    Author : Eva Månsby; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; Växtgenetik; Systematic botany; taxonomy; morphology; phytogeography; Plant genetics; Paternal effects; Seed polymorphism; Ecology; Ekologi; Crossing barriers; cpDNA markers; Genetic variation; Hybridization; Post-glacial migration; Allozymes; Silene vulgaris; Silene uniflora; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Abstract : In the present thesis, I investigated the inter- and intraspecific variation in the Silene vulgaris/uniflora species-complex (the bladder campions). I have focused on the effects of past and present hybridization both on a large scale ? over the whole of Europe ? and on a local scale. Silene vulgaris and S. READ MORE

  2. 7. Genomic and phenotypic consequences of allopolyploidization in Capsella

    Author : Tianlin Duan; Martin Lascoux; Adrien Sicard; Sylvain Glémin; Barbara Mable; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Allopolyploidy; Polyploidy; Hybridization; Neopolyploid lines; Gene expression; Self-incompatibility; Capsella bursa-pastoris;

    Abstract : Allopolyploidization, the combination of whole-genome duplication (WGD) and interspecific hybridization, is a frequent and influential event in plant evolution. Allopolyploidization potentially affects both adaptation and diversification, yet the understanding of the consequences of allopolyploidy has been obscured by several issues. READ MORE

  3. 8. Sexual Signals and Speciation : A Study of the Pied and Collared Flycatcher

    Author : Jon Haavie; Glenn-Peter Saetre; Trevor Price; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Speciation; Sexual signals; Hybridization; Reinforcement; Song; Female preference; Sex-linkage; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Speciation is the process in which reproductive barriers evolve between populations. In this thesis I examine how sexual signals contribute to the maintenance, reinforcement or breakdown of reproductive barriers.Male pied flycatchers (Ficedula hypoleuca) and collared flycatchers (F. albicollis) differ in song and plumage traits. 4. 9. A forest dark : an evolutionary history of Norway spruce

    Author : Alexis R. Sullivan; Xiao-Ru Wang; Nathaniel Street; María Rosario García-Gil; Bengt Oxelman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phylogenetics; genome assembly; recombination; Picea; hybridization; mitogenome; Norway spruce; phylogeography; phylogenetic networks; plastome;

    Abstract : Embedded within the relationships among species is a dense forest of gene trees, each with a potentially unique and discordant history. Such widespread genealogical heterogeneity is expected, but embracing this hierarchy of discordance while reconstructing the histories of populations and species remains a major challenge. READ MORE

  5. 10. Formation and Characterization of DNA Concatemers for Single Molecule Mechanism Studies

    Author : Lu Sun; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; concatemers; hybridization; DNA; gel electrophoresis; self-assembly; constructs; nanotechnology;

    Abstract : Well known as genetic information carrier, DNA however, in the past three decade experienced a revolution to become a fashionable fabrication material in nanotechnology as a consequence of the high predictability and accuracy of base-paring recognition. Although DNA can be constructed in many fancy 2D and 3D structures, this thesis work focused on constructing one-dimension linear DNA concatemers in order to study sequence specific DNA-ligand binding at the single-molecule level.
