16. Deformation Behavior of Lime/Cement Column Stabilized Clay
Abstract : Deep stabilization of clay with lime/cement columns has lately become one of the most frequent methods for improvement of soft clays. The method is cost effective, as it results in a drastic reduction of settlement. The theories used for design were originally developed for lime columns. READ MORE

17. Characterization of Hydrogeological Media Using Electromagnetic Geophysics
Abstract : Radio magnetotellurics (RMT), crosshole ground penetrating radar (GPR), and crosshole electrical resistance tomography (ERT) were applied in a range of hydrogeological applications where geophysical data could improve hydrogeological characterization. A profile of RMT data collected over highly resistive granite was used to map subhorizontal fracture zones below 300m depth, as well as a steeply dipping fracture zone, which was also observed on a coinciding seismic reflection profile. 18. Green Liquor Dregs in Sealing Layers to Prevent the Formation of Acid Mine drainage : From characterization to implementation
Abstract : One of the mining industry’s main concerns is the management of waste rock and tailings generated by sulfide ore extraction. Upon exposure to atmospheric oxygen, iron sulfides oxidize producing acidity. READ MORE

19. Water Curtains in Gas Storage. An Experimental Study
Abstract : Water curtains have been used for more than 20 years to prevent the escape of gas from caverns excavated in rock. Today, the use of water curtains appears to be increasing, with applications in various forms of storage caverns. READ MORE

20. Heat and water flows in freezing and thawing soils : numerical modelling, laboratory and field observations
Abstract : A laboratory study of infiltration rates into frozen and unfrozen fine sand, including temperature effects of both soil and infiltration water, is reported. The average infiltration rate varied from about 10.6 mm/min for unfrozen conditions, to about 1-2 mm/min for frozen conditions. READ MORE
