1. Structure-Acoustic Analysis; Methods, implementations and applications
Abstract : This thesis investigates structure-acoustic problems, which involve a flexible structure coupled to an enclosed acoustic fluid. In the literature, this type of problem is usually referred to as vibroacoustic problems or structure-acoustic problems with fluid interaction. The thesis consists of two parts. READ MORE

2. Computational Aeroacoustics Based on Large Eddy Simulation and Acoustic Analogies
Abstract : The thesis presents a numerical method developed by the author and its applications for computing the generated sound by an unsteady flow field and its propagation. The full equations of motion for compressible and unsteady flows describe both flow field and sound generation and propagation. READ MORE

3. In-Cylinder Fluid Flow, Fuel Preparation and Combustion in SI Engines - Application of Optical Diagnostics
Abstract : In this thesis laser-based measurements of in-cylinder flow and fuel concentrations in two stroke and direct injected four-stroke engines are presented. The major problem with the carburetted two-stroke engine is the short-circuiting of fuel that occurs during the scavenging phase. This leads to large emissions of unburned hydrocarbons. READ MORE

4. Mechanical Analysis of Lubrication and Lubricants
Abstract : This thesis comprises three different topics within the field of tribology. First, design functions for analyses of slider bearings are developed. Second, a lubricant model applied to elastohydrodynamically lubricated (EHL) line contacts considering wall-slip is presented. READ MORE

5. On the Load Distribution and Design of a Chain Drive
Abstract : Three methods are presented to calculate the load distribution in a chain drive containing two sprockets and one chain. The rollers, which are in contact with the sprockets, can move along the tooth flanks and their positions are given by force equilibrium. READ MORE
