  1. 1. Transition Metal Hydrides : Biomimetic Studies and Catalytic Applications

    Author : Jesper Ekström; Hans Adolfsson; Jonathan Williams; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transition metals; catalysis; bioinorganic chemistry; hydrides; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, studies of the nature of different transition metal-hydride complexes are described. The first part deals with the enantioswitchable behaviour of rhodium complexes derived from amino acids, applied in asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones. READ MORE

  2. 2. Investigating Hydrogenous Behavior of Zintl Phases : Interstitial Hydrides, Polyanionic Hydrides, Complex Hydrides, Oxidative Decomposition

    Author : Verina Kranak; Ulrich Häussermann; Gordon Miller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zintl phases; Hydrogenous Zintl phases; Polyanionic Zintl phases; Interstitial Zintl phases; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis is an investigation into the hydrogenous behavior of Zintl phases. Zintl phases are comprised of an active metal (i.e alkali, alkaline earth, and rare earth) and a p-block element. The discussion gives an overview of the influence hydrogen affects the electronic and geometric structure of Zintl phases and subsequent properties. READ MORE

  3. 3. Light-Metal Hydrides for Hydrogen Storage

    Author : Martin Sahlberg; Yvonne Brandt Andersson; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Björn Hauback; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Metal-hydrogen compounds; hydrides; hydrogen storage; X-ray diffraction; neutron diffraction; thermal desorption spectroscopy; Chemistry; Kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Demands for zero greenhouse-gas emission vehicles have sharpened with today’s increased focus on global warming. Hydrogen storage is a key technology for the implementation of hydrogen powered vehicles. READ MORE

  4. 4. Synthesis and characterisation of Zintl hydrides

    Author : Thomas Björling; Dag Noréus; Yvonne Andersson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Zintl hydrides; BaGa2H2; SrAl2H2; SrAlSiH; BaAlSiH; CaAlSiH; SrGa2H2; Chemistry; Kemi; Structural Chemistry; strukturkemi;

    Abstract : The synthesis, structural characterisation and the properties of the Zintl hydrides AeE2H2 and AeAlSiH (Ae = Ba, Ca, Sr; E = Al, Ga, In, Si, Zn) are reported. The first hydride in this class of compounds is SrAl2H2 which was discovered under an experiment by Gingl, who hydrogenated SrAl2 at various temperatures. READ MORE

  5. 5. Novel Interstitial Mg–TM (TM = Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb and Ta) Hydrides with an FCC Structure and CaNiH3 with a Perovskite Structure

    Author : Toyoto Sato; Dag Noréus; Bjørn C. Hauback; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Metal hydrides; Mg-based hydrides; a new Ca-Ni hydride; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on structural investigations of novel interstitial ternary alkaline-earth–transition metal hydrides formed by immiscible metals that are held together by the presence of hydrogen atoms. The contents are divided in two parts: Metastable Mg-based hydrides, in which transition-metal additives improve hydrogen storage properties; and a new Ca–Ni hydride, CaNiH3, with a perovskite structure, in which hydrogen enables a Ca:Ni =1:1 ratio although no such alloy composition exists.
