  1. 1. Lean NOx reduction by alternative fuels - with focus on catalysts for dimethyl ether

    Author : Sara U Erkfeldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biofuel; In2O3; lean NOx reduction; alumina; Cu-ZSM-5; Ga2O3; DME; hydrocarbon-SCR; alternative fuel; NOx storage; B2O3; Ag Al2O3;

    Abstract : There is an increased demand for diesel engines running on non-fossil fuels such as dimethyl ether (DME), biodiesel and synthetic diesel. DME is a promising alternative fuel with potential for high energy efficiency and low CO2 emissions. However, during all high temperature combustion NOx is formed, which may require exhaust aftertreatment. READ MORE

  2. 2. NOx reduction with dimethyl ether in lean exhaust

    Author : Sara U Erkfeldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NOx storage; Dimethyl ether; ether; hydrocarbon-SCR; lean NOx reduction; alcohol; Cu-ZSM-5; lean NOx trap; alkane; alternative fuel;

    Abstract : There is a growing concern worldwide about the increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2) from the combustion of fossil fuels. Vehicles with internal combustion engines contribute significantly to these emissions, which has led to an increased demand for engines running on alternative (non-fossil) fuels. READ MORE

  3. 3. Residential biomass combustion - emissions of organic compounds to air from wood pellets and other new alternatives

    Author : Maria Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Burning; methoxy¬phenol; benzene; stove; ecolabel; oats; wheat straw; firewood; boiler; hydrocarbon; smoke; peat;

    Abstract : It is important to increase the use of biofuels for residential heating in order to decrease the use of fossil fuels and their impact on global warming. The smoke from the combustion of biomass contains a large number of compounds, which to varying degrees can affect the environment and human health. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chemical Bonding of Hydrocarbons to Metal Surfaces

    Author : Henrik Öström; Anders Nilsson; Phil Woodruff; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Adsorption; hydrocarbon; core-level; spectroscopy; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Using x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) in combination with density functional theory (DFT) the changes in electronic and geometric structure of hydrocarbons upon adsorption are determined. The chemical bonding is analyzed and the results provide new insights in the mechanisms responsible for dehydrogenation in heterogeneous catalysis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Membrane Electrode Assemblies Based on Hydrocarbon Ionomers and New Catalyst Supports for PEM Fuel Cells

    Author : Sophie von Kraemer; Göran Lindbergh; Antonino Aricò; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Catalyst support; Carbon; High Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell; Hydrocarbon Ionomer; Membrane Electrode Assembly; Nafion; PEFC; PEMFC; Porous Electrode; Sulfonated Polysulfone; Titanium Dioxide; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is a potential electrochemicalpower device for vehicles, auxiliary power units and small-scale power plants. In themembrane electrode assembly (MEA), which is the core of the PEMFC single cell,oxygen in air and hydrogen electrochemically react on separate sides of a membraneand electrical energy is generated.
