  3. 3. Ice, wood and rocks : regulating elements in riverine ecosystems

    Author : Johanna Engström; Christer Nilsson; Roland Jansson; James Helfield; Tenna Riis; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : riparian zone; timber floating; river restoration; cut-off side channels; hydrochory; large wood; anchor ice; fish;

    Abstract : Riparian ecosystems are of great importance in the landscape, connecting landscape elements longitudinally and laterally and often encompassing sharp environmental gradients in ecological processes and communities. They are influenced by fluvial disturbances such as flooding, erosion and sediment deposition, which create dynamic and spatially heterogeneous habitats that support a high diversity of species. 4. 4. Genetics and ecology of natural populations

    Author : Elisabeth Lundqvist; Ulf Lagercrantz; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Angelica archangelica; Bistorta vivipara; Viscaria alpina; Eiseniella tetraedra; ecotypes; hydrochory; genetic differentiation; clone diversity; genetic patterns; riparian;

    Abstract : I have studied the genetic variation of single species using morphological variation and enzyme electrophoresis. I have striven to understand the interaction between the breeding structure and the ecology of the species in relation to the community, in which it lives. The work was done in the county of Västerbotten, northern Sweden. READ MORE
