  1. 21. Numerical and experimental modelling for wave energy arrays optimization

    Author : Marianna Giassi; Malin Göteman; Jan Isberg; Gregorio Iglesias; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wave energy; Point absorber; Arrays; Parks; Farms; Optimization; Array layout; Genetic algorithm; Cost function; Wave tank experiment; Hydrodynamics; Economical model; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : Many wave power conversion devices, especially point-absorbers, do not provide alone the necessary amount of converted electricity to be cost effective, instead they are designed to be deployed in arrays of many units. Such arrays, or parks, can satisfy a large-scale energy demand, reduce the costs of the produced electricity and improve the reliability of the system. READ MORE

  2. 22. The Advanced Spectral Leakage (ASL) scheme for simulations of merging neutron stars

    Author : Davide Gizzi; Stephan Rosswog; Evan O'Connor; Albino Perego; Carla Fröhlich; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrodynamics; radiative transfer; neutrinos; stars: neutron; supernovae: general; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The detection of a blue macronova following the event GW170817 has emphasized the role that neutrinos play in merging neutron stars. In particular, neutrinos are able to drive mass ejection, the so-called neutrino-driven winds, and change the neutron richness of the matter by absorption. READ MORE

  3. 23. Cavitation Mechanisms Related to Erosion Studies on Kaplan Turbines, Foils, and Propellers

    Author : Mikael Grekula; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cavitation; experimental studies; cavitation erosion; cavitation mechanisms; hydrodynamics; cavitation noise; cavitation assessment;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis work is to study cavitation behaviours related to erosion. The focus is on processes of observable scale, i.e. the process prior to the micro scale level at which the actual damage is generated. READ MORE

  4. 24. Modelling Wave Power by Equivalent Circuit Theory

    Author : Ling Hai; Mats Leijon; Rafael Waters; Yongliang Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Wave energy; hydrodynamics; electric circuit; electrical analogy; energy absorption; force; system modelling; Simulink; engineering science; renewable energy; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity;

    Abstract : The motion of ocean waves can be captured and converted into usable electricity. This indicates that wave power has the potential to supply electricity to grids like wind or solar power. A point absorbing wave energy converter (WEC) system has been developed for power production at Uppsala University. READ MORE

  5. 25. Influence of Acoustic Interaction between Cavities That Generate Cavitation Noise

    Author : Jan Hallander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; numerical simulation; collapse of vapour cavities; experimental studies; pressure pulses; cavitation noise; hydrodynamics; cavitation; bubbles; cavitating flows;

    Abstract : The thesis concerns high frequency cavitation noise generated by marine propellers, for example. The collapse of a cavity is forced by the surrounding pressure which comprises the pressure in the undisturbed flow, the pressure disturbance associated with the local non-cavitating flow and, finally, the pressure disturbance from the presence and motion of neighbouring cavities.
