1. Interactions between non-polar surfaces in water: Fokus on talc, pitch and surface roughness effects
Abstract : The aim of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the interactions between talc mineral and surfaces, liquids and chemicals relevant for industrial applications, such as pulp and paper. Talc is used in the pulp and paper industry as a filler pigment, in control of pitch (lipophilic extractives) deposits and as a coating pigment. READ MORE

2. RNA in model lipid membranes - interactions in bulk and at surfaces
Abstract : The work presented in the thesis “RNA in model lipid membranes- interactions in bulk and at surfaces” aims to characterize the interaction between RNA and model membranes with different properties as well as to determine if ssRNA associate with model membranes in different ways. Several techniques have been used to characterize these systems, including quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D), Langmuir film balance in combination with neutron reflectometry and fluorescence microscopy as well as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). 3. Protein-Polymer Interaction and Association in Aqueous Solution
Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to study protein-polymer interaction and association. Two different techniques were used; Monte Carlo simulations were combined with partitioning in polymeric aqueous two-phase systems. Monte Carlo simulations have been used to evaluate the hydrophobic interaction in electrolyte solution. READ MORE

4. Wetting and Capillary Flow of Surfactant Solutions and Inks
Abstract : This thesis presents results of a series of experimental studies on the spreading dynamics of small drops of complex solutions on solid surfaces. The capillary flow dynamics of complex solutions have also been investigated. READ MORE

5. Phase Behavior and Solution Properties of Aqueous Polyion-Surfactant Ion Systems
Abstract : Polyelectrolytes and oppositely charged surfactants interact through attractive electrostatic forces, which in many cases lead to phase separation already at low total concentrations. During the past 10-15 years investigations of these systems have been simplified through the use of complex salts that consist of surfactants with polymeric counterions in a 1:1 charge stoichiometry (no excess simple counterions present).
