  1. 21. Non-invasive monitoring of low molecular weight biomarkers relevant to skin inflammation and cancer

    Author : Skaidre Jankovskaja; Tautgirdas Ruzgas; Johan Engblom; György Marko-Varga; Melinda Rezeli; Pawel Lukasz Urban; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tryptophan; Kynurenine; Phenylalanine; Tyrosine; Low molecular Weight Biomarkers; Non-Invasive; Skin Surface Sampling; Skin Permeability; Hydrogels; Prussian White; Health and society; Hälsa och samhälle;

    Abstract : Development of skin inflammation and cancer in viable epidermis and dermis involve slow molecular weight (LMW) metabolites. We hypothesize that these LMW compounds can be collected on the surface of the skin and used for non-invasive diagnostics of skin disorders. READ MORE

  2. 22. Carbohydrate-specific, boronate-containing copolymers: from sugar-sensing to cell adhesion

    Author : Marina Kuzimenkova; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; surface grafting; chemisorption; boronic acid; carbohydrates; affinity; chromatography; smart polymers; biomimetics; hydrogels; molecular recognition; diffusion; sugar-sensing; cell adhesion;

    Abstract : Carbohydrates play a major role in many cell recognition events and metabolic pathways of living organisms. Synthetic carbohydrate receptors are of great interest for the chemical design of sugar sensors, materials for cell separation, cell immobilization, drug delivery and other biomedical/biotechnological applications. 3. 23. Antibacterial elastomeric materials for biomedical applications

    Author : Annija Stepulane; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydrogels; antibacterial coating; polydimethylsiloxane; elastomer blends; drug-delivery; antimicrobial peptides;

    Abstract : An ageing population in combination with scientific and clinical advancements have led to a steady increase in the use of medical devices. Elastomeric biomaterials – materials displaying rubber-like mechanics – have found widespread applicability in the production of both short- and long-term medical devices. READ MORE

  4. 24. Micropatterning of hyaluronic acid hydrogels for in vitro models

    Author : Ana María Porras Hernández; Maria Tenje; Maria Antfolk; Jörg Kütter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Micropatterning; hyaluronic acid hydrogels; endothelial cells; alignment; cell chirality; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology;

    Abstract : The human body consist of a vast number of cells, and jointly, the cells, form tissues and organs. The cells interact and respond to their local microenvironment. READ MORE

  5. 25. Mechanical and swelling properties of hydrogels

    Author : Ting Yang; Anders Hult; Michael Malkoch; Jöns Hilborn; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Hydrogels have been used as one of the novel soft materials in many biomedical applications such as drug delivery and tissue engineering for recent decades.In the main part of this work, bi-functional poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) precursors with either thiols (PEG-SH) or allyls (PEG-Al) , covering molecular weights from 3 kDa to 8 kDa were synthesized and thoroughly characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-Raman and MALDI-TOF techniques.
