  1. 1. Hunting Hydrogen : Structure-property relations in High Entropy Alloy-based metal hydrides

    Author : Gustav Ek; Martin Sahlberg; Ulrich Häussermann; William I.F. David; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrogen; metal-hydride; High Entropy Alloy; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Metal hydrides have many uses when switching the energy system from fossil fuels to renewable sources, such as rechargeable batteries, hydrogen storage, hydrogen compression and thermal storage. State of the art materials for these applications such as LaNi5 and TiFe, however, suffer certain limitations such as degradation during repeated hydrogen cycling and harsh activation conditions for initial hydrogen uptake, promoting the need for novel materials. 2. 2. The interaction of hydrogen with metallic glass

    Author : Johan Bylin; Gunnar K. Pálsson; Ralph H. Scheicher; Gabriella Andersson; Astrid Pundt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metallic glass; hydrogen; thin film; density functional theory; stochastic quenching; molecular dynamics; x-ray diffraction; pair distribution function; neutron reflectometry; volume expansion; elastic hydrogen-hydrogen interaction; dipole force tensor; electronic structure; optical conductivity; resistivity; optical transmission; x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; thermodynamic driving force; Gibbs free energy; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Combining theoretical ab initio calculations with high-purity thin film sample synthesis and in situ measurements is a compelling way to bridge the gap in our understanding concerning hydrogen in metallic glasses, which is the primary work of this dissertation thesis. The main emphasis has been on how hydrogen affects the structure of metallic glasses, and how those changes influence not only the electronic properties of the amorphous metals but also their thermal stability. 3. 3. Caldicellulosiruptor Saccharolyticus: an Ideal Hydrogen Producer?

    Author : Sudhanshu Pawar; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : Caldicellulosiruptor owensensis; Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus; hydrogen; volumetric hydrogen productivity; biofilm; osmotolerance; wheat straw hydrolysate; evolutionary engineering; CSTR; UA reactor and uracil auxotrophy;

    Abstract : Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus is an extremely thermophilic, strictly anaerobic, Gram-positive and cellulolytic microorganism with a natural ability to produce hydrogen (H2) at nearly theoretical maximum yield, i.e. 4 mol/ mol of glucose. READ MORE

  4. 4. Novel electrode and photoelectrode materials for hydrogen production based on molecular catalysts

    Author : Andrew J. Bagnall; Leif Hammarström; Vincent Artero; Sascha Ott; Alexander Cowan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrochemical mechanism; hydrogen; artificial photosynthesis; molecular catalyst; hydrogen evolution; cobalt; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The PhD project focussed on the application of a cobalt tetraazamacrocyclic complex, in the literature commonly referred to as [Co(CR)Cl2]+ as a molecular catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This was within the broader scope of the EU MSCA H2020 ITN ‘eSCALED’ project, which primarily aimed to create artificial leaf devices for the storage of solar energy in chemical fuels and, as part of this, sought the development of novel bio-inspired and scalable materials. 5. 5. Hydrogen in nominally anhydrous silicate minerals : Quantification methods, incorporation mechanisms and geological applications

    Author : Franz A. Weis; Henrik Skogby; Peter Lazor; Jannick Ingrin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NAMs; clinopyroxene; hydrogen; hydrothermal pressure; magmatic water content; zoisite; OH-dipole; Raman spectroscopy; FTIR; luminescence; proton-proton scattering;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge and understanding of trace water concentrations in nominally anhydrous minerals (NAMs). Special focus is put on the de- and rehydration mechanisms of clinopyroxene crystals in volcanic systems, how these minerals can be used to investigate the volatile content of mantle rocks and melts on both Earth and other planetary bodies (e.
