21. Multiscale interfacial engineering of heterogeneous electrocatalysts : From structural design to mechanistic study
Abstract : In a typical heterogeneous electrocatalytic reaction, for the given active sites, the electronic structure plays a determining role in electron transfer between the active sites and reactant molecules, which impacts the reaction efficiency. Besides the electronic properties of the electrocatalysts, the reaction interface at which the charge transfer occurs plays an important role in the reaction kinetics. READ MORE

22. N-Heterocyclic Carbene-Phosphine Iridium Catalyzed Alkylation Reactions and Asymmetric Hydrogenation of Ketones
Abstract : This thesis is focused on hydrogen transfer reactions using N-heterocyclic carbenephosphine iridium catalysts and is divided in two parts. The first part describes the use of achiral N-heterocyclic carbene-phosphine iridium complexes catalyzing the methylation of ketones and alkylation of amides using alcohols as the electrophile. 23. DNA-Photosensitization by New Drugs for Photoinactivation of Viruses and Phototherapy of Tumors
Abstract : Cyanines and pyropheophorbides are two classes of photoactivable dyes which are particularly interesting for photosterilization of blood used in transfusion and for treatment of localised cancers by photodynamic therapy (PDT). After a bibliographic review about the principal mechanisms of DNA photosensitization, studies about the photosensitizing properties of these two families of compounds are presented. READ MORE

24. Transition Metal- and Enzyme-Catalyzed Reactions of Primary Amines and Allylic Alcohols : Powerful Tools in the Preparation of Pharmaceutically Important Compounds
Abstract : Dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) has been applied to primary amines utilizing a ruthenium catalyst and an (R)-selective lipase to provide the corresponding amides in up to 95% isolated yield and up to >99% ee. Further investigations of the chemoenzymatic DKR of amines show that it is general and can be applied to a wide range of amines. READ MORE

25. Engineering inorganic nanostructured composites for boosting H2 and O2 evolution reactions
Abstract : Hydrogen is considered a promising energy source with zero emission of CO2; it can provide higher energy density compared to other sources of energy. The amount at which H2 is produced, and the method of production need further improvement for the advancement of hydrogen energy technologies. READ MORE
