  1. 1. Cyanobacterial Hydrogen Metabolism - Uptake Hydrogenase and Hydrogen Production by Nitrogenase in Filamentous Cyanobacteria

    Author : Pia Lindberg; Peter Lindblad; Kornél Kovács; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; cyanobacteria; biohydrogen; Nostoc; hydrogen production; hydrogen evolution; hydrogen metabolism; nitrogenase; hydrogenase; hydrogen; uptake hydrogenase; hupSL; hydrogen uptake mutant; uptake hydrogenase mutant; photobioreactor; hydrogenase accessory genes; hyp; transcription; RT-PCR; NtcA; mass spectrometry; heterocyst; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Molecular hydrogen is a potential energy carrier for the future. Nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria are a group of photosynthetic microorganisms with the inherent ability to produce molecular hydrogen via the enzyme complex nitrogenase. This hydrogen is not released, however, but is recaptured by the bacteria using an uptake hydrogenase. READ MORE

  2. 2. Maturation and Regulation of Cyanobacterial Hydrogenases

    Author : Åsa Agervald; Peter Lindblad; Karin Stensjö; Ann Magnuson; Poul Erik Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biohydrogen; Cyanobacteria; Nostoc sp. PCC 7120; Nostoc punctiforme PCC 73102; Hydrogenase; Maturation; Transcriptional regulation; CyAbrB; CalA; FeSOD;

    Abstract : Accelerated global warming plus an increasing need for energy is an equation not easily solved, thus new forms of sustainable energy production are urgently requested. In this context hydrogen production based on a cyanobacterial system offers an environmentally friendly alternative for energy capture and conversion. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Biodiversity of Hydrogenases in Frankia : Characterization, regulation and phylogeny

    Author : Melakeselam Leul Zerihun; Anita Sellstedt; Kornel Kovács; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; Frankia; immunoblotting; gene expression; uptake hydrogenase; hydrogen-evolving hydrogenase; nickel; phylogeny; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : All the eighteen Frankia strains isolated from ten different actinorhizal host plants showed uptake hydrogenase activity. The activity of this enzyme is further increased by addition of nickel. Nickel also enhanced the degree of hydrogenase transfer into the membranes of Frankia, indicating the role of this metal in the processing of this enzyme. READ MORE
