1. Supercritical Hydrogenation of Vegetable Oils
Abstract : Vegetable oils were hydrogenated in a supercritical single-phase mixture with propane and hydrogen. The reaction was carried out in a small (0.5 ml) fixed-bed reactor and the influence of different process parameters was investigated. READ MORE

2. Hydrogenation, Transfer Hydrogenation and Hydrogen Transfer Reactions Catalyzed by Iridium Complexes
Abstract : The work described in this thesis is focused on the development of new bidentate iridium complexes and their applications in the asymmetric reduction of olefins, ketones and imines. Three new types of iridium complexes were synthesized, which included pyridine derived chiral N,P-iridium complexes, achiral NHC complexes and chiral NHC-phosphine complexes. READ MORE

3. Iridium Catalysed Asymmetric Hydrogenation of Pyridines
Abstract : This thesis presents the hydrogenation of substituted pyridines using N,P-ligated iridium catalystsin homogeneous media. These iridium catalysts were developed within this research group in thepast decade. This method of hydrogenation is highly stereoselective, and in several cases good to excellent ees were obtained. 4. Synthesis of Novel Chiral Bicyclic Ligands and their Application in Iridium-Catalyzed Reactions
Abstract : The synthesis of 2-aza-norborane derivatives is presented. The use of these compounds in preparation of Ir catalysts for asymmetric hydrogenations is described. The evaluation and optimization of the catalysts as well as the mechanistic aspects of the catalytic process are discussed. READ MORE

5. Asymmetric Synthesis and Mechanistic Insights of Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Hydrogenation
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is focused on asymmetric synthesis and mechanistic insights of hydrogenations catalyzed by Ir-N,P- and Rh-diphosphine complexes. The developed methodologies provide an efficient catalytic system to access optically enriched compounds by exploiting the effect of the N,P ligand structure and investigating the enantioconvergent behavior.
