  1. 6. Surface interactions and adsorbate structures : An atomic force microscopy study

    Author : Goran Bogdanovic; KTH; []
    Keywords : atomic force microscope; AFM; cantilever calibration; colloidal probe; surface force; force curve; friciton; hydrophobic; adhesion; roughness; multilayer; silica; cellulose; cationic polyelectrolyte; MAPTAC;

    Abstract : Atomic force microscopy, AFM, was used for studying somecurrent topics in the field of surface and colloid science. Themain topics addressed in this thesis were: the nature of thelong-range attraction between hydrophobic surfaces; slidingfriction behavior for microscopic contacts; and interfacialstructuring of polyelectrolyte-nanoparticle multilayerfilms. 4. 9. Ion Tracks for Micro- and Nanofabrication : From Single Channels to Superhydrophobic Surfaces

    Author : Reimar Spohr; Lars Westerberg; Lars Montelius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ion track; single ion; real time; phase detection; conductometric cell; conductometry; electro replication; microtechnology; nanotechnology; surfactant; self organization; GMR; magnetic; sensor technology; hydrophobic; tilted texture.; Physics; Fysik; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : A method is described for preset-count irradiations between 1 and 100 ions singling-out individual ions from an ion beam with more than a billion ions arriving per second. The ion tracks are etched in a conductometric system with real-time evaluation of the acquired data. The etch process can be interrupted when reaching a preset channel diameter. READ MORE

  5. 10. Polyelectrolyte - Surfactant Interactions in Dilute Suspensions. A Study Based on Monte Carlo simulations and Mean-Field Calcultations

    Author : Torsten Wallin; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aggregation number; linear charge density; chain flexibility; mean-field; calculation; simulation; Monte Carlo; cmc; cac; interaction; electrostatic; charged; micelle; polyelectrolyte; surfactant; hydrophilic; hydrophobic; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The complexation of macroions or charged micelles and oppositely charged polyelectrolytes was studied by the use of Monte-Carlo simulations and mean field calculations. The Monte-Carlo simulations were performed on a simple model system with the emphasis on the electrostatic interaction, (i) polyelectrolyte rigidity, (ii) polyelectrolyte linear charge density, (iii) surfactant tail length, and (iv) the polyelectrolyte concentration.
