  1. 1. Effects of Watershed Dynamics on Water Reservoir Operation Planning : Considering the Dynamic Effects of Streamflow in Hydropower Operation

    Author : Nicholas Zmijewski; Anders Wörman; Andrea Bottacin-Busolin; Francesca Pianosi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reservoir operation; dispersion processes; wave diffusion; multi-objective operation; water resource management; discharge variability; power spectrum analysis; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Water reservoirs are used to regulate river discharge for a variety of reasons, such as flood mitigation, water availability for irrigation, municipal consumption and power production purposes. Recent efforts to increase the amount of renewable power production have seen an increase in intermittent climate-variable power production due to wind and solar power production. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dynamic Models for Mechanical Analysis of Synchronous Hydropower Generators

    Author : David Rondon; Jan-Olov Aidanpää; Timo Holopainen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rotordynamics; Hydropower; Generator; Curved Beam; Tillting-Pad Bearing; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Hydropower generators are essential for providing electricity for daily human activities. For that reason, designing and building reliable generators contributes to a sustainable energy supply market. READ MORE

  3. 3. Time-accurate Turbulence Modeling of Swirling Flow for Hydropower Application

    Author : Ardalan Javadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : In 2019, Sweden implemented legislative changes to renegotiate hydropower permits to both consider environmental rehabilitation and to ensure national supply of hydropower. This means that efforts for environmental rehabilitation of the 2,000 hydropower plants in Sweden need to be considered. READ MORE

  5. 5. Simulation methods for hydropower flows : modeling and validation experiments

    Author : T. Fredrik Engström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : My research project aims for more accurate modeling of the flow in hydropower plants. By accurate modeling, it is possible to try different modifications on existing plants in an affordable manner. Also, entirely new designs can be tested before realization. Hydropower delivers almost 50% of Sweden's electricity demand with a production of 74 TWh. READ MORE
