    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; History of science and technology; Hydropower; Electrification; Postcolonial Theory; Feminist Theory; Science and Technology Studies; Colonialism; Development assistance; Africa; Tanzania; Southern Highlands; Great Ruaha River; Vetenskapshistoria; Teknikhistori; Vattenkraftsutbyggnad – Tanzania; Kolonialism – Tanzania; Utvecklingsbistånd – Tanzania; History of technology and industry; Teknik- och industrihistoria; Historia;

    Abstract : This study analyses the history of a large hydroelectric scheme – the Great Ruaha power project in Tanzania. The objective is to establish why and how this specific scheme came about, and as part of this to identify the key actors involved in the decision-making process, including the ideological contexts within which they acted. 2. 2. Mobilization of metals from mining wastes and the resuspension of contaminated sediments

    Author : Lan Thuy Nguyen; Bo Svensson; Gunnar Jacks; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acid Rock Drainage; hydropower plant; metal contamination; mining wastes; storm-wind; resuspension; sediment; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : In some environmental situations, environmental effects caused by elevated metals resulting from past mining and smelting activities can be observed in nearby receiving water bodies several decades after mine and smelter closure. There is a growing need for managing the hazardous solid wastes such as mining wastes as well as for assessing water quality and for sustainable management of sediment quality. READ MORE

  3. 3. Simulation methods for hydropower flows : modeling and validation experiments

    Author : T. Fredrik Engström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : My research project aims for more accurate modeling of the flow in hydropower plants. By accurate modeling, it is possible to try different modifications on existing plants in an affordable manner. Also, entirely new designs can be tested before realization. Hydropower delivers almost 50% of Sweden's electricity demand with a production of 74 TWh. READ MORE

  4. 4. A sensitivity analysis of the Winter-Kennedy method

    Author : Binaya Baidar; Michel J. Cervantes; Mikael Sendelius; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydropower; discharge; Winter-Kennedy; CFD; Sensitivity; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Hydropower is among the lowest-cost electrical energy sources due to its long lifespan and lower operation and maintenance cost. The hydro-mechanical components of hydropower plants generally last about four to five decades, then they are either overhauled or replaced. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hydropower plants and power systems : Dynamic processes and control for stable and efficient operation

    Author : Weijia Yang; Per Norrlund; Urban Lundin; Christophe Nicolet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : As the largest global renewable source, hydropower shoulders a large portion of the regulation duty in many power systems. New challenges are emerging from variable renewable energy (VRE) sources, the increasing scale and complexity of hydropower plants (HPPs) and power grid. READ MORE
