  1. 1. Inhibition of Calcium and Zinc Absorption by Phytate in Man Methodological Studies and Hydrothermal Processing of Cereals to Improve Absorption

    Author : Kerstin Fredlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; barley; wheat; rye; 65Zn; oats; zinc absorption; whole grains; InsP6; hydrothermal processing; calcium absorption; rice; radionuclide technique; 47Ca; extrinsic labelling; phytate; hydrothermal treatment; myo-inositol; calcium retention; whole-body counting;

    Abstract : A mathematical model based on measurements in a whole-body counter described the retention of calcium in the human body. It was shown that the relative retention of intravenous and orally administered 47Ca in all subjects (n = 10 - 11) were well described by fitting a simple function of time with two free parameters to a few whole-body measurements after day 6, when the unabsorbed calcium had been excreted. 2. 2. Fundamental deactivation mechanisms of Fe-BEA as NH3-SCR catalyst - Experimental studies and kinetic modeling

    Author : Soran Shwan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dealumination; Hydrothermal treatment; Catalyst deactivation; NH3-SCR; Kinetic ageing model; Catalyst ageing; Fe-BEA;

    Abstract : Due to globalization and an increasing transport sector the interest for more fuel efficient combustion engines operating under lean conditions has increased. The products formed during the burning process in internal combustion engines are major contributants to global air pollution, where carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) are the major toxic components regulated in many countries. 3. 3. Biochemical conversion of biomass : hydrothermal pretreatment, by-product formation, conditioning, enzymatic saccharification, and fermentability

    Author : Dimitrios Ilanidis; Leif J. Jönsson; Carlos Martin; Björn Alriksson; Eulogio Castro; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lignocellulosic biomass; hydrothermal pretreatment; enzymatic digestibility; ethanolic fermentation; microbial inhibitors; conditioning;

    Abstract : Lignocellulosic residues have great potential as feedstocks for production of bio-based chemicals and fuels. One of the main routes is biochemical conversion, which typically includes pretreatment, enzymatic saccharification, microbial fermentation of sugars, and valorization of hydrolysis lignin. 4. 4. Metal-exchanged zeolites for NH3-SCR applications - Activity and Deactivation studies

    Author : Soran Shwan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; modeling; NOX.; Hydrothermal; Chemical; Kinetic; Copper; Deactivation; Iron; Zeolite; Nitrogen oxides; NH3; Ammonia; Catalyst; NSR; Emissions; Poisoning; Ageing; NH3-SCR;

    Abstract : Emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOX) formed during the burning process in internal combustion engines is a major contributor to global air pollutions. One effective way to reduce NOX in lean environments, i.e. oxygen excess is selective catalytic reduction with ammonia (NH3-SCR). READ MORE

  5. 5. Peat Coated with Iron Oxides : Purification of Metal(loid)-Contaminated Water and Treatment of the Spent Adsorbent

    Author : Alfreda Kasiuliene; Jurate Kumpiene; Ivan Carabante; Prosun Bhattacharya; Luke Beesly; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; iron-peat; adsorption; arsenic; metals; combustion; hydrothermal carbonisation; landfilling; Avfallsteknik; Waste Science and Technology;

    Abstract : In Sweden due to the industrial activities, such as wood impregnation, multiple point sources of arsenic (As) contamination in soil and water bodies are scattered over the country. Metals, such as chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd) or zinc (Zn) at varying concentrations are usually present as well. READ MORE
