1. Steroid-Metabolizing Cytochrome P450 (CYP) Enzymes in the Maintenance of Cholesterol and Sex Hormone Levels
Abstract : The enzymes CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 are widely expressed in various human tissues and perform catalytic reactions in cholesterol homeostasis and endocrine signaling. We have investigated the metabolism of a synthetic oxysterol. READ MORE

2. In vivo Pharmacokinetic Interactions of Finasteride and Identification of Novel Metabolites
Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to improve the understanding of the in vivo pharmacokinetics and, in particular, the metabolism of finasteride, a 5α-reductase inhibitor used in the treatment of enlarged prostate glands and male pattern baldness. CYP3A4 has been identified as the major enzyme involved in the sequential metabolism of finasteride to ω-OH finasteride (M1) and ω-COOH finasteride (M3). READ MORE

3. Toxicometabolomics and biotransformation product screening in single zebrafish embryos
Abstract : Over the last decade environmental agencies worldwide have escalated their work to phase out animal testing for the purposes of chemical regulation. Meanwhile the number of commercially available chemicals and the requirements for hazard assessments have both increased, creating a large need for substitution of traditional in vivo assays with in vitro tests. 5. Cholesterol homeostasis in the brain : importance of 24S-hydroxylation
Abstract : Brain cholesterol is characterized by a very low turnover with very little exchange with lipoproteins in the circulation. We have investigated whether side chain-hydroxylated cholesterol species are important for elimination of cholesterol from the brain. About 80% of 24S-hydroxycholesterol (24S-OH-Chol) present in the body is present in the brain. READ MORE
