  1. 1. Hormones and fluid balance during pregnancy, labor and post partum

    Author : Anitha Risberg; Mats Sjöquist; Kerstin Olsson; Sven Lyrenäs; Karolina Kublickiene; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : cortisol; estradiol; glucose; labour; osmolality; oxytocin; parturition; pregnancy; pregnancy-induced hypertension; progesterone; vasopressin; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to determine any association between plasma oxytocin and vasopressin concentrations and renal water and sodium excretion during normal pregnancy. In addition to investigate changes in concentrations of estradiol, progesterone, oxytocin, cortisol, and glucose in the blood before and in the nearest hours after delivery and if treatment with oxytocin affected these concentrations and the fluid balance during the different stages of labour. 2. 2. Haemodynamic management in liver surgery

    Author : Lena Sand; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; liver resection; nitroglycerine; central venous pressure; vasopressin; patient position; PEEP;

    Abstract : Background: Liver resection surgery is a potentially curative treatment for liver tumours. The liver is a highly vascular organ, and substantial intra-operative blood loss is common. Increased blood loss negatively impacts both postoperative outcome and long-term survival. READ MORE

  3. 3. THE VASOPRESSIN SYSTEM IN DIABETES MELLITUS, OBESITY AND THE METABOLIC SYNDROME

    Author : Sofia Enhörning; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arginine vasopressin; copeptin; prediction; epidemiology; diabetes mellitus; risk factors; abdominal obesity; obesity; metabolic syndrome; microalbuminuria; AVPR1A; AVPR1B;

    Abstract : Background: Animal studies suggest that the arginine vasopressin (AVP) system plays a role in glucose and fat metabolism, but data from humans are limited. Method and results: We analysed plasma copeptin (copeptin), a stable C-terminal fragment of the AVP pro-hormone in the large, Swedish, population-based cohort Malmö Diet and Cancer Study Cardiovascular Cohort (MDC-CC, n=6103). 4. 4. Fluid state and blood pressure control in patients on maintenance hemodialysis

    Author : Krassimir S Katzarski; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : chronic renal failure; hemodialysis; blood pressure; hypertension; fluid state; extracellular volume; blood volume; dry weight;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of high mortality in dialysis patients. Hypertension is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and despite the use of highly efficient antihypertensive drugs (AHD), blood pressure (BP) is poorly controlled in the vast majority of hemodialysis (HD) patients.
