  1. 1. Efficiency and Selectivity in the Chlorate Process

    Author : Aleksandra Lindberg; Ann Cornell; Susanne Holmin; Eva Blomberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electrolysis; chlorate process; anodes; cathodes; selectivity; chromate; chromium VI ; DSA; HER; OER; ClER; oxygen; chlorate; hypochlorite; electrocatalysis; catalysis; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis presents experimental studies concerning two parts of the electrochemical cell in the chlorate process: a cathode and an anode.Newly synthesized MnOx electrodes were investigated for the cathodic reaction, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in the chlorate process. 2. 2. Oxygen formation in the chlorate process and preparation and deactivation of ozone selective anodes

    Author : Staffan Sandin; Ann M. Cornell; Paul Christensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATO; EOP; ozone; electrode preparation; elec- trode deactivation; hypochlorite; chlorate; oxygen; chromium VI ; sodium dichromate; electrocatalysis; catalysis; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents experimental studies concerning two differ-ent electrolytic processes. One part deals with the electrochemicalformation of ozone and focuses on the preparation and deactiva-tion of a highly ozone-selective metal oxide anode (NATO - nickeland antimony doped tin oxide). 3. 3. Electrochemical Investigations of Water and Hypochlorite Reduction on a-and y-FeOOH

    Author : Kristoffer Hedenstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sodium chlorate; corrosion; electrodeposition; goethite; lepidocrocite; hypochlorite reduction; hydrogen evolution;

    Abstract : The cathodes in the electrochemical cells used for production of sodium chlorate process are made from mild steel. Due to the harsh environment in the chlorate cell, with oxidative species such as chlorate and hypochlorous acid, the cathodes corrodes. This corrosion might be beneficial, leading to surface enlargement and lower potential. READ MORE

  4. 4. Energy efficiency in the sodium chlorate process: From electrocatalysis to pilot plant investigations

    Author : Kristoffer Hedenstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sodium chlorate; corrosion; mild steel; goethite; lepidocrocite; green rust; hypochlorite reduction; hydrogen evolution; in situ electrochemical Raman spectroscopy;

    Abstract : Sodium chlorate is an important industrial chemical produced through an electrochemical manufacturing process. The global production rate is 3.6 million tons annually and consumes approximately 20 TWh of electrical power. The majority of the produced sodium chlorate is used as raw material to make chlorine dioxide for the bleaching of kraft pulp. READ MORE

  5. 5. In-situ activated hydrogen evolution from pH-neutral electrolytes

    Author : John Gustavsson; Ann Cornell; Olof Forsén; KTH; []
    Keywords : molybdate; trivalent cations; electrolysis; hypochlorite reduction; films; electrolysis; chlorate process; molybdat; trivalenta katjoner; elektrolys; hypokloritreduktion; filmer; kloratprocessen; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : The goal of this work was to better understand how molybdate and trivalent cations can be used as additives to pH neutral electrolytes to activate the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER). Special emphasis was laid on the chlorate process and therefore also to some of the other effects that the additives may have in that particular process. READ MORE
