  1. 1. Organic Azides : Functional Molecules and Materials

    Author : Giampiero Proietti; Peter Dinér; Per I. Arvidsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; perfluorinated Aromatic Azide; Photoactivatable; fluorophores; aggregation-induced emission; sulfonimidamides; sulfoximes; chiral auxilary; organogel; azides reduction; Ni-B; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis stems from the chemistry of the azido group, and more specifically from the unique reactivity of perfluorinated aromatic azides and how to use this reactivity to access new types of molecules to enable new applications in asymmetric synthesis and materials.In the first section of this thesis, a photoactivatable fluorescence probe is presented, where the non-luminescent azide was activated via a UV-light-promoted intramolecular N–H insertion reaction forming a fluorescence emitter. 2. 2. Decision Support for Treatment of Patients with Advanced Parkinson’s Disease

    Author : Jerker Westin; Torgny Groth; Mark Dougherty; Sven Pålhagen; Marja-Liisa Dahl; Martin Rydmark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; telemedicine; motor test; tapping; spiral; self-assessment; home-assessment; outcome measure; electronic diary; patient-reported outcome; remote patient monitoring; levodopa; infusion; pharmacokinetic; pharmacodynamic; Medical informatics; Medicinsk informatik; Medical Informatics; Medicinsk informatik; E-MOTIONS; Beslutsstöd för Parkinsonbehandling;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to develop, deploy and evaluate new IT-based methods for supporting treatment and assessment of treatment of advanced Parkinson’s disease. In this condition a number of different motor and non-motor symptoms occur in episodes of varying frequency, duration and severity. READ MORE

  3. 3. New Approaches for Levodopa Treatment in Parkinson’s Disease

    Author : Marina Senek; Dag Nyholm; Elisabet I Nielsen; Maral Mouradian; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; Pharmacokinetics; Pharmacodynamics; Population modeling; Levodopa; Carbidopa; Entacapone; Microtablets; Intestinal infusion;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by degeneration of dopaminergic cells, which results in dopamine depletion. Levodopa is the most effective symptomatic treatment, however, disease progression along with the unfavorable pharmacokinetics of levodopa makes the disease increasingly difficult to treat with time. 4. 4. Deliberations on the impact of antibiotic contamination on dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes in aquatic environments

    Author : Björn Berglund; Per-Eric Lindgren; Dan I. Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The great success of antibiotics in treating bacterial infectious diseases has been hampered by the increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Not only does antibiotic resistance threaten to increase the difficulty in treating bacterial infectious diseases, but it could also make medical procedures such as routine surgery and organ transplantations very dangerous to perform. 5. 5. Characterization and Clinical Application of Normoxic Polymer Gel in Radiation Therapy Dosimetry

    Author : Anna Karlsson; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3D dose verification; uncertainties; low-density gel; fractionation dependence; characterization; normoxic gel; polymer gel dosimetry; MRI; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Cancer is one of the main causes of death in the world, particularly in developing countries and is considered as a major public health problem. Radiation therapy has been an important modality for treatment of cancer for many decades. READ MORE
