6. Radiotherapy Gel Dosimetry: Development and Application of Normoxic Polymer Gels
Abstract : In many radiotherapy applications, true three-dimensional dosimetry with good spatial resolution that can be achieved in a single measurement would be of great value. Polymer gel dosimetry fulfils many of the demands on such a system. In this study, methods to facilitate the implementation of gel dosimetry have been investigated. READ MORE

7. Generic Properties of Polymer Solutions
Abstract : Polymer solutions are abundantly present in our daily life, for example in paints, jellies, contact lenses and even in the living cells. Despite their ubiquity, we still have a poor understanding of the physical properties of solutions due to the extremely large number of internal degrees of freedom. READ MORE

8. On the Structure and Dynamics of Polyelectrolyte Gel Systems and Gel-surfactant Complexes
Abstract : This thesis describes the results of experimental work on polyelectrolyte gels and their interaction with oppositely charged surfactants, and presents two new algorithms applicable to the simulation of colloid and polymer systems. The model systems investigated were crosslinked poly(acrylate) (PA) and poly(styrene sulphonate) (PSS), and the surfactant was dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (DoTAB). 9. Implementation of MRI gel dosimetry in radiation therapy
Abstract : Gel dosimetry was used together with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure three-dimensional absorbed dose distributions in radiation therapy. Two different dosimeters were studied: ferrous- and monomer gel, based on the principles of radiation-induced oxidation and polymerisation, respectively. READ MORE

10. Studies on fibrin gel structure
Abstract : Fibrin gel formation is the final result of interaction between multiple plasma proteins; as a result of activation, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin and crosslinking of fibrin occurs by activated factor XIII, which stabilises the formed clot. Fibrin gel networks were studied in purified fibrinogen systems and in plasma samples from patients with cardiovascular complications and healthy individuals, using light-scattering, turbidity, liquid permeation and confocal 3D microscopy techniques.
