  1. 1. Numerical Modelling of Self-Compacting Concrete Flow : Discrete and Continuous Approach

    Author : Annika Gram; Johan Silfwerbrand; Ali Farhang; Mette R. Geiker; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SCC; rheology; Simulation of Flow; Simulering; Flöde; Självkompakterande Betong; Reologi; Construction materials; Konstruktionsmaterial;

    Abstract : With the advent of Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) that flows freely, under the soleinfluence of gravity, the wish for hassle-free and predictable castings even in complexcases, spurged the simulation of concrete flow as a means to model and predictconcrete workability. To achieve complete and reliable form filling with smoothsurfaces of the concrete, the reinforced formwork geometry must be compatible withthe rheology of the fresh SCC. READ MORE

  2. 2. Small Molecules as Tools in Biological Chemistry : Effects of Synthetic and Natural Products on the Type III Secretion System

    Author : Caroline E. Zetterström; Mikael Elofsson; Samuel I. Miller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Type III secretion; salicylidene acylhydrazide; virulence-blocker; virulence; inhibitor; target identification; neohopeaphenol A; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Escherichia coli; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry;

    Abstract : The increasing use of antibiotics has led to a huge problem for society, as some bacteria have developed resistance towards many of the antibiotics currently available. To help find solutions to this problem we studied small molecules that inhibit bacterial virulence, the ability to cause disease. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on surface proteins of Gram-positive bacteria

    Author : Robert Janulczyk; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ABC transport; complement; surface protein; Gram-positive; Streptococcus pyogenes; Streptococcus pneumoniae; Klinisk biologi; Clinical biology;

    Abstract : Despite the availability of antibiotics and modern health care, infectious diseases continue to cause great suffering and costs. Bacterial surface proteins are important for the interaction between host and pathogen. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dendritic cell interactions with Gram negative bacteria

    Author : Mattias Svensson; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mycology; virology; Major histocompatibility complex molecules; Dendritic cells; Gram negative bacteria; Antigen processing; Antigen presentation; bacteriology; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : The interaction between murine bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (DC) and the Gram negative bacteria Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli have been characterised. These studies showed that DC phagocytosed and processed S. typhimurium and E. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular Epidemiology and Mechanisms of Antibiotic Resistance in Clinical Isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from Qatar

    Author : Mazen Sid Ahmed; Jana Jass; Emad Ibrahim; Ali Sultan; Bo Söderquist; Christian Giske; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotics; C T; CZA; MDR; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; ST235; VEB; VIM;

    Abstract : Inappropriate and excessive use of antibiotics promotes antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly in Gram-negative bacteria (GNB). There is a noticeable increase in nosocomial infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is associated with significant morbidity, mortality, and an increase in cost management.
