  2. 22. Role of extracellular ATP in immune mechanisms against infections

    Author : Lalitha Tadala; Andrea Puhar; Sara I Wilson; Bernt Eric Uhlin; Mikael Sellin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Extracellular ATP; invasive bacteria; Shigella; Listeria; plasma membrane ruffle; PIEZO1; infection; immune response; Hanta virus; molekylär cellbiologi; molecular cell biology;

    Abstract : Inflammation is driven either by infection with pathogens or sterile stimuli, such as tissue damage or autoimmune diseases. Upon tissue damage, ATP is released passively from the dead or compromised cells. During stress, ATP can be secreted from the cells. Extracellular ATP (eATP) acts as an endogenous danger signal. 4. 24. Expression and function of IGF-I and insulin receptors in human micro- and macrovascular cells

    Author : Simona I. Chisalita; Hans J. Arnqvist; Torbjorn Lindström; Per-Anders Jansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Insulin-like growth factor and insulin are phylogenetically closely related polypeptides and have large structural and biological similarities. Low circulating insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), diabetes as well as insulin resistance have been implicated in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease, but the mechanisms involved are still not clear. 5. 25. New neurons and astrocytes in the adult brain. Studies on adult rat neural progenitors in vivo and in vitro with special reference to the effects of IGF-I and CNTF regarding proliferation and lineage determination

    Author : Maria A I Åberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Brain; hippocampus; rat; neurogenesis; progenitor cell; stem cell; ciliary neurotrophic factor; insulin-like growth factor-I; PI3-K; MAPK.;

    Abstract : The hippocampal dentate gyrus in several species, including man, continues to produce new neurons and glial cells in adulthood. The generation of new neurons and glial cells in the adult hippocampus is under strict regulation. Two major events of significance for cell genesis from progenitor cells are proliferation and lineage determination. READ MORE
