  1. 1. Inflammatory mechanisms in experimental CNS trauma

    Author : Jonas Isaksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Spinal cord injury; brain injury; ICAM-1; P-selectin; iNOS; inflammation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries are important causes of premature death and permanentdisability. To improve the treatment of CNS-injured patients increased knowledge about thepathophysiological events that mediate death or dysfunction of nervous tissue is urgently needed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Soluble intercellular and vascular cell adhesion molecules-1 in lymphoid neoplasms : A clinical and prognostic study of Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and chronic B-lymphocytic leukaemia

    Author : Ilse Christiansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Hodgkin s disease; non-Hodgkin s lymphomas; chronic lymphocytic leukaemia; sICAM-1; sVCAM-1; prognostic markers; VCAM-1; ICAM-1; Hodgkin cell lines; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : The interaction of soluble adhesion molecules with adhesion ligands expressed by immunological cells interfere with the cell-cell adhesion essential for the signal transductions that initiate immunological responses. Preliminary data suggest that soluble adhesion molecules also promote angiogenesis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hyaluronan receptors of liver endothelial cells, their purification and characterisation

    Author : Peter A. G. McCourt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; hyaluronan; scavenger receptors; ICAM-1; liver endothelial cells; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : Hyaluronan (HA) is a polysaccharide common throughout the connective tissues. and is found at low concentrations in the blood. The major site of its clearance is via an endocytic receptor on liver endothelial cells (LEC). This process is vital, as excessive serum levels of HA lead to clotting disorders and overly viscous blood. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effect of Ischaemia-Reperfusion on Rabbit Kidney and Human Brain

    Author : Jagdish Shivlal Gondalia; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Free radicals; ischaemia-reperfusion; cell bioenergetics; NMR; ESR; carotid artery stenosis; endarterectomy; allopurinol; acetylcysteine; MMP-1; ICAM-1; MCP-9; oxLDL;

    Abstract : Free radicals are produced in various organs at ischaemia-reperfusion. The final stage in radical damage is lipid peroxidation. We have demonstrated previously that a lipid-soluble antioxidant improves restoration of bioenergetics in rabbit kidneys after ischaemia, as reflected in 31P spectrometry. READ MORE

  5. 5. Antibiotics and infusion phlebitis. Clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Peter Lanbeck; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infections; HUVEC; endothelium vascular; Infektioner; ICAM-1; 3H-thymidine incorporation; cloxacillin; dicloxacillin; phlebitis epidemiology; Antibiotics; phlebitis chemically induced;

    Abstract : Intravenous administration of antibiotics is often followed by infusion phlebitis. In this condition are vessel irritation, inflammation and sometimes superficial thrombosis included. In this thesis, the risk for infusion phlebitis for various antibiotics has been evaluated in a clinical study in 550 patients. READ MORE
