  1. 11. Theoretical Investigations of Water Clusters, Ice Clathrates and Functionalized Nanoparticles

    Author : Annika Lenz; Lars Ojamäe; Kim Bolton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Nanosized structures are of intermediate size between individual molecules and bulkmaterials which gives them several unique properties. At the same time their relative limitedsizes make them suitable for studies by the methods of computational chemistry. READ MORE

  2. 12. Glacial geology and palaeo-ice dynamics of two ice-sheet margins, Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia and Jameson Land, East Greenland

    Author : Helena Alexanderson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice dynamics; Pleistocene; Arctic Siberia; East Greenland; Sedimentology; Physical geography; Sedimentologi; pedology; geomorphology; klimatologi; kartografi; marklära; geomorfologi; cartography; Fysisk geografi; ice-marginal processes; glacial history; climatology;

    Abstract : The North Taymyr ice-marginal zone (NTZ) on the Taymyr Peninsula, Arctic Siberia and the Ugleelv Valley on Jameson Land, East Greenland, have been investigated with the aim of reconstructing the glacial history, including depositional processes and environments. Geomorphological, sedimentological, stratigraphical and remote sensing methods have been combined to give a comprehensive view of developments in the two areas. READ MORE

  3. 13. Remote sensing of supra-glacial lakes on the west Greenland Ice Sheet

    Author : A. Malin Johansson; Ian A. Brown; Peter Jansson; Johan Kleman; Andreas Ahlstrøm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Supra-glacial lakes; Greenland Ice Sheet; Ice melting; Remote sensing; SAR; MODIS; Time-series analysis; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The Greenland Ice Sheet is the largest ice sheet in the northern hemisphere. Ongoing melting of the ice sheet, resulting in increased mass loss relative to the longer term trend, has raised concerns about the stability of the ice sheet. Melt water generated at the surface is temporarily stored in supra-glacial lakes on the ice sheet. READ MORE

  4. 14. Petermann Glacier Ice Shelf in a warming world : Insights from 3-D numerical modelling of ice shelf-ocean interactions at Petermann Fjord, Northwest Greenland

    Author : Abhay Prakash; Nina Kirchner; Qiong Zhang; Riko Noormets; Hans Burchard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; Greenland; ice shelf-ocean interactions; numerical ocean modelling; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : The Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) is currently the largest contributor to global mean sea level rise, and contemporary mass loss rates are likely lower bounds for the rates to be observed in decades to come. At present, marine outlet glaciers along the northern GrIS margin, with an ice volume estimated at 400 cm mean global sea level rise equivalent, are still largely buttressed by ice shelves. 5. 15. The atmospheric contribution to Arctic sea-ice variability

    Author : Marie-Luise Kapsch; Rune G. Graversen; Michael Tjernström; Jennifer Francis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sea ice; Arctic; Climate Variability; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : The Arctic sea-ice cover plays an important role for the global climate system. Sea ice and the overlying snow cover reflect up to eight times more of the solar radiation than the underlying ocean. Hence, they are important for the global energy budget, and changes in the sea-ice cover can have a large impact on the Arctic climate and beyond. READ MORE
