  1. 21. Remote sensing of supra-glacial lakes on the west Greenland Ice Sheet

    Author : A. Malin Johansson; Ian A. Brown; Peter Jansson; Johan Kleman; Andreas Ahlstrøm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Supra-glacial lakes; Greenland Ice Sheet; Ice melting; Remote sensing; SAR; MODIS; Time-series analysis; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The Greenland Ice Sheet is the largest ice sheet in the northern hemisphere. Ongoing melting of the ice sheet, resulting in increased mass loss relative to the longer term trend, has raised concerns about the stability of the ice sheet. Melt water generated at the surface is temporarily stored in supra-glacial lakes on the ice sheet. READ MORE

  2. 22. Phytoplankton and Physical Disturbance : Seasonal dynamics in temperate Lake Erken, Sweden

    Author : Yang Yang; Kurt Pettersson; Peeter Nõges; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phytoplankton dynamics; high-frequency measurements; thermal stratification; water column stability; equilibrium; disturbance;

    Abstract : Phytoplankton mirrors changes in the environment and plays an important role in biogeochemical processes. Phytoplankton dynamics is the outcome of both autogenic succession and external disturbances. READ MORE

  3. 23. Multi-satellite views on mesospheric microphysics and dynamics

    Author : Lina Broman; Jörg Gumbel; Susanne Benze; Scott Bailey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polar mesospheric clouds; satellite tomography; remote sensing; cloud microphysics; wave dynamics; mesosphere; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Atmospheric gravity waves of different scales and origins strongly modulate the wind field and temperature structure of the higher parts of the atmosphere. Direct and continuous measurements of these processes are particularly complicated in the mesosphere at about 50 to 100 km height due to the remote location of this region. READ MORE

  4. 24. Numerical modelling of the Cordilleran ice sheet

    Author : Julien Seguinot; Arjen Stroeven; Shawn Marshall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Numerical modelling; Cordilleran ice sheet; last glacial cycle; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This doctoral dissertation presents a study of the glacial history of the North American Cordillera using numerical ice sheet modelling calibrated against field evidence. This area, characterized by the steep topography of several mountain ranges separated by large inter-montane depressions, was once covered by a large-scale ice mass: the former Cordilleran ice sheet. 5. 25. Retreat pattern and dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets: reconstructions based on meltwater features

    Author : Martin Margold; Krister Jansson; Arjen Stroeven; Johan Kleman; Karin Helmens; Chris Stokes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Palaeoglaciology; Cordilleran Ice Sheet; deglaciation; glacial meltwater features; glacial lake; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Glaciers and ice sheets covered extensive areas in the Northern Hemisphere during the last glacial period. Subsequently to the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), they retreated rapidly and, except for Greenland and some other ice caps and glaciers, they vanished after the last glacial termination. READ MORE
