  1. 1. Load Shifting and Storage of Cooling Energy through Ice Bank or Ice Slurry Systems : modelling and experimental analysis

    Author : Marino Grozdek; Per Gunnar Lundqvist; Michael Kauffeld; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; refrigeration systems; cool thermal energy storage system; ice; modelling; simulation; field measurement; experiment; indirect system; ice-on-coil system; external melt; ice slurry; homogeneous storage; heterogeneous storage; Thermal energy engineering; Termisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : Ice based Cool Thermal Energy Storage (CTES) systems have attracted much attention during last few decades. The reasons are mainly of economical and environmental nature. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ridged sea ice modelling in climate applications

    Author : Sebastian Mårtensson; Markus Meier; Kristofer Döös; Peter A. Lundberg; Frank Kauker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic ocean; Baltic Sea; sea ice; ice dynamics; numerical modelling; climate; ice deformation; ice compression; physical and biogeochemical interactions; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : This work aims to increase our understanding of the nature of large scale features of sea ice from a dynamics point of view.Sea ice plays an important part in the exchange of heat and humidity between sea and air and thus is an important component of the climate system. READ MORE

  3. 3. Secondary ice production : An empirical formulation and organization of mechanisms among simulated cloud-types

    Author : Akash Deshmukh; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice; collision; ice production; ice enhancement; secondary ice; sublimation; fragmentation;

    Abstract : Clouds are essential elements within Earth's atmosphere, posing a challenge for cloud-resolving models in understanding the creation of new cloud ice particles from existing ice and liquid phases. Such ice initiation determines cloud microphysical and radiative properties, influencing cloud phase, precipitation and cloud extent/properties. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanisms for the Influence from Ice Nucleus Aerosols on Clouds and their Indirect Effects: Cloud Modelling

    Author : Deepak Waman; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clouds; Radiation; Ice Nuclei; Primary Biological Aerosol Particles; Ice particles; Secondary ice; primary ice; Aerosol particles; thunderstorm;

    Abstract : The role of multiple groups of primary biological aerosol particles (PBAPs) as ice nucleating particles (INPs), and of ice formation processes such as time-dependent freezing of various INPs, and various secondary ice production(SIP) mechanisms in overall ice concentration has been evaluated in a range of cloud systems by simulating them numerically with the state-of-the-art ‘Aerosol-Cloud’ (AC) model in a 3D mesoscale domain. Also, the mechanismsof aerosol indirect effects (AIEs) arising from anthropogenic INPs, and the responses to these AIEs from time-dependent INP freezing and SIP processes are investigated in the simulated clouds. Abstract : This research is focused on three distinct but interconnecting topics:1) investigation of physical and mechanical properties of ice rubble, 2) material modelling of ice rubble, 3) numerical simulation of the interaction between ice rubble structure interaction. large scatter in the values of physical and mechanical properties of ice rubble can be seen in the literature due to non-standardised methods.
