  1. 1. Dead-Ice Under Different Climate Conditions: Processes, Landforms, Sediments and Melt Rates in Iceland and Svalbard

    Author : Anders Schomacker; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; glacier; dead-ice; surge; ice-cored; Little Ice Age; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; Svalbard; Iceland; Sedimentology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Sedimentologi; Physical geography; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; climatology;

    Abstract : Modern dead-ice environments in the glacier forefields of Brúarjökull, Iceland and Holmströmbreen, Svalbard were investigated with focus on landform and sediment genesis, as well as quantification of melting. Field monitoring and studies of multi-temporal aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) provided data for the melting quantification. READ MORE

  2. 2. Petermann Glacier Ice Shelf in a warming world : Insights from 3-D numerical modelling of ice shelf-ocean interactions at Petermann Fjord, Northwest Greenland

    Author : Abhay Prakash; Nina Kirchner; Qiong Zhang; Riko Noormets; Hans Burchard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; Greenland; ice shelf-ocean interactions; numerical ocean modelling; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : The Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) is currently the largest contributor to global mean sea level rise, and contemporary mass loss rates are likely lower bounds for the rates to be observed in decades to come. At present, marine outlet glaciers along the northern GrIS margin, with an ice volume estimated at 400 cm mean global sea level rise equivalent, are still largely buttressed by ice shelves. 3. 3. Combining limnology and paleolimnology : a refined understanding of environmental sediment signal formation in a varved lake

    Author : Dominique Béatrice Maier; Christian Bigler; Sebastian Diehl; Jasmine E. Saros; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; varved lake sediments; diatom sediment signal formation; sequential sediment trap; seasonal process timing; ice thinning; varve compaction; climate impact; catchment properties; Earth Sciences with Specialization Environmental Analysis; geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys;

    Abstract : Paleoclimatic archives, such as lake sediments, extend our understanding of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem dynamics in relation to climate variability beyond the period covered by instrumental data. In this context, annually laminated (i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling ice surface elevation changes in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica : Bridging the gap between in-situ and numerical model reconstructions

    Author : Martim Mas e Braga; Arjen P. Stroeven; Irina Rogozhina; Jonathan M. Harbor; Clas Hättestrand; Frank Pattyn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice sheet modelling; glaciology; paleoglaciology; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : Ice sheets are an active component of Earth's climate system. Their topography influences atmospheric circulation and changes in their volume alters freshwater fluxes to the oceans, affecting ocean water masses, atmospheric carbon uptake, and global sea level. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies of the Arctic Ocean sea ice cover and hydrothermal heat fluxes

    Author : Christian Stranne; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oceanography; Arctic climate sensisitvity;

    Abstract : Since reliable ice extent estimates from satellite data became available in 1979 the Arctic sea ice cover has followed a declining long term trend. Over the last decade the decline has accelerated with record low sea ice extents recorded in 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2012. READ MORE
