  1. 1. Functional analysis of the -1087 single nucleotide polymorphism in the IL-10 promoter region

    Author : Lena Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-10; B cells; Sp1; transcription factors; gene expression;

    Abstract : Interleukin (IL) 10 is recognized as a pro-inflammatory cytokine that promotes B cell proliferation. The objectives of the present series of studies were to analyze (i) differences in transcription factor binding to the -1087 IL-10 gene polymorphism in B cells, (ii) the influence of the A to G nucleotide transition on IL-10 and Sp1 gene expression in B cells, (iii) differences in Sp1 expression in periodontitis lesions from GG and AA genotype subjects and (iv) epigenetic modifications around the -1087 site and their influence on IL-10 gene expression. 2. 2. Molecular mechanisms behind the liver-induced acceptance of renal grafts in highly sensitized patients

    Author : Madeleine Ingelsten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : kidney transplantation; liver tolerance; HLA antibodies; dendritic cells; indoleamine 2; 3-dioxygenase; IL-10; natural killer cells;

    Abstract : Preformed antibodies directed at donor HLA are considered an absolute contraindication for kidney transplantation, because of the high risk of rejection. Thus, patients with high levels of HLA antibodies have little chance of receiving a kidney transplant. READ MORE

  3. 3. The B lymphocyte in Staphylococcus aureus arthritis

    Author : Inger Gjertsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Staphylococcus aureus; mice; arthritis; sepsis; B cells; Fcg receptors; CD22; ; IL-4; IL-10; IFN-g.;

    Abstract : Joint infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus leads to heavy synovitis and rapid destruction of bone and cartilage. Permanent loss of joint function is seen in 20-50% of the patients, despite early eradication of the bacteria with antibiotics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Immunological mechanisms involved in seasonal pollen allergy and allergen-specific immunotherapy

    Author : Robert Movérare; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Allergy; birch pollen; IFN-g; IgE; IgG; IgG4; IL-4; IL-5; IL-10; IL-13; immunotherapy; PBMC; rush immunotherapy; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Abstract : Th1/Th2-like T-cell responses were studied by stimulating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) with allergens or antigens followed by restimulation with mitogens to induce high cytokine synthesis. Allergen-stimulation in vitro induced Th2-skewed cytokine synthesis by PBMCs from birch-pollen-allergic patients. READ MORE

  5. 5. Phenotype and function of CD25+ regulatory T cells in infants and adults

    Author : Hanna Grindebacke; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Immunology; CD4 CD25 FOXP3 regulatory T cells; human; allergy; IL-10; Systemic immunotherapy; migration; homing receptors; maturation;

    Abstract : Active suppression by CD4+CD25+FOXP3+ regulatory T cells (Treg) is essential for the maintenance of peripheral tolerance to both self antigens and environmental antigens. Absence of these cells in human newborns leads to autoimmune and inflammatory disorders as well as allergic disease. READ MORE
