  1. 1. Structure, evolution and expression of glandular kallikrein genes

    Author : Yvonne Ceder; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ileum.; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Tissue distribution; Androgen responsive element; Ortholog; Evolution; Prostate cancer; Glandular kallikreins; Prostate-specific antigen;

    Abstract : Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a worldwide used tool for the diagnosis and monitoring of prostate cancer. It is a serine protease and belongs to the family of glandular kallikreins. Humans have three classical glandular kallikreins, but it has been reported that rodents have many more. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mucosal dendritic cells in inflammatory bowel disease

    Author : Sa'ad Yislam Salim; Johan D. Söderholm; Mary jo Wick; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Blood; Crohn s disease; dendritic cells; E. coli; FACS; follicle-associated; epithelium; human; ileum; mixed lymphocyte reaction; permeability; Peyer s patches; SAMP1 YitFc; Ussing chambers; villous epithelium; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Crohn's disease, a chronic inflammation of the bowel, is a multi-factorial condition where uncontrolled immune responses to luminal bacteria occur in genetically predisposed individuals. The first observable clinical signs are small ulcers that form at a specialised form of epithelium, follicle-associated epithelium (FAB). READ MORE

  3. 3. Epithelial barrier dysfunction in ileal Crohn's disease

    Author : Johan Dabrosin-Söderholm; Svante Nordgren; Linköpings universitet; []

    Abstract : The study aimed at investigating the intestinal barrier in Crohn's disease, with special reference to epithelial responses to luminal stimuli, and to permeation of proteins.Ileal mucosa from patients undergoing intestinal resection was studied in vitro in Ussing chambers. READ MORE

READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies on nitric oxide in autonomic neurotransmission

    Author : Caroline Olgart; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : acetylcholine; autonomic neurotransmission; botulinum toxin; colon; guinea pig; ileum; intestine; nitric oxide; rat; tachykinin.;

    Abstract : The aim of the present thesis was to study nitric oxide (NO) as a mediator in autonomic neurotransmission in the enteric nervous system, including studies on the mechanism for neuronal release of NO, as well as the effects of NO on intestinal smooth muscle and enteric neurones. Furthermore, the signal transduction pathway for the evoked effects of NO and nitrergic neurotransmission were investigated. READ MORE
