  1. 1. Exchange Rates, Exports, Inflation, and International Monetary Cooperation

    Author : Irina Andone; Nils Gottfries; Mikael Bask; Volker Nitsch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Industry-level Real Effective Exchange Rates; Firm-level Exports; Inflation Persistence; Inflation Targeting; EMU; Financial Arrangements; IMF Conditionality; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three self-contained essays. Essay I: Exchange rate movements often cause anxiety among policy-makers, given the strong link between currency movements and export competitiveness, which may, in turn, affect economic growth. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the Properties of Ionospheric Convection

    Author : Torbjörn Sundberg; Lars Blomberg; Judy Cumnock; Mike Lockwood; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrophysics; Elektrofysik;

    Abstract : The solar wind interaction with the magnetosphere-ionosphere system continuously drives plasma convection in the polar regions of the ionosphere. The flow velocity and the shape of the convection pattern are closely dependent on the interplanetary conditions, in particular the direction of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). READ MORE

  3. 3. Solar wind ions inside the induced magnetosphere of Mars

    Author : Catherine Dieval; Christian Mazelle; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rymdteknik; Space Technology;

    Abstract : The subject of the thesis is analysis and modeling of the entry, transport, and atmospheric precipitation of solar wind ions, H+ and He2+, into the induced magnetosphere of Mars. The solar wind is a flow of charged particles emitted by the Sun. The solar wind carries with it a magnetic field, the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). READ MORE

  4. 4. New Perspectives on Solar Wind-Magnetosphere Coupling

    Author : Torbjörn Sundberg; Lars Blomberg; Judy Cumnock; Masaki Fujimoto; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; magnetosphere; ionosphere; mercury; kelvin-helmholtz; Electrophysics; Elektrofysik;

    Abstract : The streaming plasma in the solar wind is a never ending source of energy, plasma, and momentum for planetary magnetospheres, and it continuously drives large-scale plasma convection systems in our magnetosphere and over our polar ionosphere. This coupling between the solar wind and the magnetosphere is primarily explained by two different processes: magnetic reconnection at high latitudes, which interconnects the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) with the planetary dipole field, and low-latitude dynamos such as viscous interaction, where the streaming plasma in the solar wind may trigger waves and instabilities at the flanks of the magnetosphere, and thereby allow solar wind plasma to enter into the system. 5. 5. How does O+ outflow vary with solar wind conditions?

    Author : Audrey Schillings; Hans Nilsson; Rikard Slapak; Lars-Göran Westerberg; Christopher Cully; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmosfärsvetenskap; Atmospheric science;

    Abstract : The entire solar system including Earth is enveloped in a region of space where the Sun’s magnetic field dominates, this region is called the heliosphere. Due to this position in the heliosphere, a strong coupling exists between the Sun and our planet. READ MORE
