  1. 16. Palladium(0)-Catalyzed Spirocyclization and Carbonylation Reactions : Ligands Targeting the Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor

    Author : Jens Lindman; Mats Larhed; Johan Gising; Christian Sköld; Alessandra Tolomelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Palladium catalysis; Mizoroki-Heck reaction; spiroindolines; spirooxindoles; amino acids; carbonylation; angiotensin II type 2 receptor; AT2R ligands; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : Palladium(0)-catalyzed chemistry represents one of the most important methods for the construction of carbon-carbon bonds, which are ubiquitous in organic compounds. The first part of this thesis describes the palladium(0)-catalyzed diastereoselective Mizoroki-Heck reaction of Vince lactam-derived precursors for the formation of spiroindolines (paper I) and spirooxindoles, which are scaffolds present in several natural products with interesting biological activity. 2. 17. Microbial modulation of metabolic diseases

    Author : Antonio Molinaro; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiota; Glucose Metabolism; type 2 diabetes; NAFLD; non-alcoholic fatty liver disease;

    Abstract : The gut microbiota, the ensemble of microorganisms living in the gastrointestinal tract, and the host have a mutualist relationship. Alterations of this delicate equilibrium can lead to changes in microbiota composition and/or function leading to the onset of metabolic diseases (e.g., type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases). 3. 18. Some Aspects of Physicochemical Properties of DNA and RNA

    Author : Sandipta Acharya; Jyoti Chattopadhyaya; Piet Herdewijn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Bioorganic chemistry; nucleic acids; hydrogen-bonding; stacking; single-stranded; NMR; molecular dynamics; Bioorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on nine research publications (I – IX) on structure and reactivity of RNA vis-à-vis DNA. The DNA and RNA are made of flexible pentose sugar units, polyelectrolytic phosphodiester backbone, and heterocyclic nucleobases. DNA stores our genetic code, whereas RNA is involved both in protein biosynthesis and catalysis. READ MORE

  4. 19. Organocatalytic Transformations with N-Heterocyclic Carbenes - An Investigation of Ionic Liquids as NHC Precatalysts and Aerobic Oxidative Esterifications

    Author : Linda Ta; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; N-heterocyclic carbene; ionic liquid; multi-component reaction; aerobic oxidation; OTHO; Organocatalysis; green chemistry;

    Abstract : The call for more sustainable processes in the chemical society has led to the development of the field of green chemistry. The Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry serve as guidelines for the design of processes. READ MORE

  5. 20. Mechanistic Studies of Dinuclear Metalloenzymes - A Model Approach

    Author : Håkan Carlsson; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; models; Enzymes; bioinorganic chemistry; dinuclear; urease; nickel; zinc triphosphoesterase; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry;

    Abstract : With the goal to study the mechanisms of dinuclear metalloenzymes, a new line of synthetic and computational models were prepared and studied. Mixed imidazole and carboxylate multidentate complexes were synthesized to better simulate carboxylate-rich ligand environments. READ MORE
