  1. 1. T-cell competition as a mechanism for immunodominance and the role for IL-12 in CTL responses

    Author : Per Grufman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : CTL; Dendritic cells; Immunodominance; T-cell competition; IL- 12;

    Abstract : Immunodominance is a process in which the immune response focuses on one or a few of all potential epitopes that exists within an antigen. The mechanisms for immunodominance have not yet been determined. READ MORE

  2. 2. T-lymphocyte mediated killing of TAP-deficient tumor cells and immunodominance of minor histocompatibility antigens

    Author : Elisabeth Z Wolpert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Target structures and regulation of cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) mediated responses is the subject of this thesis. One main finding is that cells devoid of a functional transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) appear to express novel epitopes that can be recognized by syngenic CTL. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of MHC class I peptide interaction on antigen presentation in normal and malignant cells

    Author : Qian-Jin Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cytotoxic T lymphocytes; Natural Killer cells; Epstein-Barr virus; MHC class I; class I binding motifs; T cell receptor; antigen presentation; immunodominance;

    Abstract : The presentation of MHC class I peptide complexes in normal and malignant cells was studied. An HLA A11 binding motif was defined by comparing synthetic peptide analogues of a known cytotoxic T Iymphocyte (CTL) target epitope for induction of surface A11 expression and triggering of cytotoxic activity. 4. 4. CD8+ T cell specificity in thymic selection and in the recognition of antigen

    Author : Johan Sandberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : T cell; specificity; MHC class 1; selection; tolerance;

    Abstract : Specificity mediated by the T cell receptor (TCR) is of fundamental importance for the ability of T cells to function, and regulate humoral immunity and effector mechanisms of the innate immune system. T cells recognize composite molecules consisting of products of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I or class 11 loci, in complex with a short peptide fragment derived from endogenous or antigenic proteins. 5. 5. Molecular basis for the MHC class II association in rat experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

    Author : Katrien L de Graaf; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the functional and structural aspects of rat MHC class 11 molecules and studies their influence on MBP- and MOG-peptide induced experimental autoimmune encephalomylitis (EAE) in LEW MHC congenic rat strains. EAE is an animal model for multiple sclerosis (MS) and can be induced in rats with components of the myelin sheath . READ MORE
