  1. 21. Peptidergic innervation of periarticular tissue : a study in the rat

    Author : Paul Ackermann; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Immunohistochemistry; radioimmunoassay; pain measurement; Achilles tendon; collateral ligaments; joint capsules; tendon rupture; regeneration; peripheral nervous system; neuropeptides; delta opioid receptor;

    Abstract : Painful musculo-skeletal disorders pose a tremendous burden on the healthcare system, the main reason being the limited knowledge of the underlying pathomechanisms and lack of specific treatment. Hypothetically, the peripheral nervous system in the musculo-skeletal tissues plays an important role in the regulation of pain, inflammation, vasoactivity and also tissue repair. READ MORE

  2. 22. On laminins and laminin receptors and their roles in regeneration and myelination of the peripheral nerve

    Author : Wilhelm Wallquist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Motoneuron; dorsal root ganglion neuron; integrin; laminin; Schwann cell; Sciatic nerve; regeneration; myelination; in situ hybridization; immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy.;

    Abstract : One important prerequisite for successful axon regeneration is that appropriate extracellular molecules are available for outgrowing axons and that receptors for such molecules are found in the regenerating neuron. Laminin associated integrin subunits alpha3, alpha6, alpha7 and beta1 mRNAs are here shown to be present in rat motoneurons, and in the case of integrin subunits alpha7 and gamma1, also immunohistochemical (IHC) labelling of the proteins was demonstrated. 3. 23. Characterization of Centrally Expressed Solute Carriers : Histological and Functional Studies with Transgenic Mice

    Author : Sahar Roshanbin; Robert Fredriksson; David Engblom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SLC; Solute carriers; Amino acid transporter; PAT; B0AT2; mTORC1; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : The Solute Carrier (SLC) superfamily is the largest group of membrane-bound transporters, currently with 456 transporters in 52 families. Much remains unknown about the tissue distribution and function of many of these transporters. READ MORE

  4. 24. Prognostic factors in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, with emphasis on 11q13 rearrangements and cyclin D1 overexpression

    Author : Jan Åkervall; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; audiologi; Otorinolaryngologi; auditive system and speech; audiology; head and neck; squamous cell carcinoma; genetics; prognosis; CCND1; chromosomes; cyclin D1; chemotherapy; Otorhinolaryngology; gene expression; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Abstract : At present, clinical outcome or response to therapy can not be fully predicted in individual cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN). The overall aim of the present studies was to investigate potential prognostic factors, more closely related to the malignant progression of a tumor than the established markers, such as the TNM-classification system. 5. 25. Prognostic markers in breast cancer associated with cell cycle control, proliferation and angiogenesis

    Author : Thomas Lindahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Breast cancer; TP53; VEGF; cyclin E; Ki-67; MIB-1; p21; MDM-2; survival; prognostic markers;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on potential prognostic molecular breast cancer markers which are related to angiogenesis, proliferation or cell cycle control. A common denominator for all of the investigated markers in the thesis is either hypothesized or previously reported association with the tumor suppressor gene TP53. READ MORE
