  1. 11. Retinal Transplants: Growth Differentiation Integration Organization and Survival

    Author : Rajesh Kumar Sharma; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; retinal degeneration; Retinal transplants; retinal development; treatment; connections; proliferation; survival; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The goal of the study was to get a better understanding of factors controlling the growth, differen-tia-tion, integration, organization and survival of retinal transplants, with the long-term view of eventually developing retinal transplantation into a clinically useful procedure for treating degenerative retinal disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa. Embryonic day 15 rabbit retinas were transplanted into adult rabbit eyes and were allowed to survive for various times. READ MORE

  2. 12. The Serotonin Transporter and the Vesicular Monoamine Transporters During Development

    Author : Stefan R Hansson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; whiskers; lateral geniculate; infraorbital nerve; neural crest; merkel; somatosensory cortex; Key wordscitalopram; thalamus; visual cortex; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : In the present study, the mRNA encoding the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and two isoforms of the vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT1 and VMAT2) have been mapped in the rat throughout gestation and early postnatal development using in situ hybridization, RT PCR and immunohistochemistry. 5-HTT mRNA was found in serotonergic neurons and VMAT2 mRNA in all monoaminergic neurons from early gestation. 3. 13. On CXC Chemokines in Endotoxin-Induced Liver Injury

    Author : Xiang Li; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ortopedi; traumatologi; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; Surgery; patologisk anatomi; Patologi allmän ; pathological anatomy; General pathology; intravital microscopy; liver damage; Adhesion; CXC chemokines;

    Abstract : Leukocyte recruitment is a rate-limiting step in endotoxemic liver injury. Leukocyte extravasation is a multistep process, supported by multiple combinations of adhesion molecules and chemokine receptors. This thesis examined the mechanisms of activation, adhesion and extravascular infiltration of leukocytes in endotoxin-induced liver injury. READ MORE

  4. 14. SOX11 in Mantle Cell Lymphoma - Novel Tools for Diagnostic, Prognostic and Functional Investigations

    Author : Lena Nordström; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antibodies; DNA methylation; Epigenetics; SOX11; Lymphoma;

    Abstract : The goal of biomarker discovery is to identify disease defining molecules, which could be used to improve early detection and/or to predict survival and response to treatment. This thesis is about the transcription factor SOX11, a protein discovered in the context of mantle cell lymphoma in 2008, which shows great potential to be used as a clinical relevant biomarker. 5. 15. Experimental Vitreous Substitution

    Author : Henrik Barth; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retinal Detachment; Vitreous Body : surgery; Retina cytology metabolism surgery; Retina: Function; Retina: Inflammation; Retinal Detachment; Vitreous Body : surgery; Vitreous substitute; Vitrectomy;

    Abstract : Blindness and visual disability are common following vitreoretinal pathologies such as open globe injury, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). These conditions often necessitate surgical intervention using vitrectomy with a tamponading vitreous substitute. READ MORE
