  1. 16. Rethinking Social Impact Assessment through Urban Design: Towards designerly evaluation with a socio-form approach

    Author : Joanna Gregorowicz-Kipszak; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SIA; analysis; transversality; SOCIO-FORM approach; research through design; built form; the social; urban design; space of possibilities; assessment; social impact; knowledge hub;

    Abstract : Tools for assessing the social impact of urban designs are being developed internationally and in Swedish municipalities. While methodological development is underway, a theoretical discussion about the implications of urban design on social impact assessment (SIA) and its critical potential is rare, leading to the situation whereby much SIA is instrumental and might act against reinforcing and improved integration of the social dimension into the practice of urban planning and design. 2. 17. Towards a Scenario-based Spatial Dynamic Modeling for Predicting Urban Land Use Change : Planning Tools and Comparative Analysis

    Author : Zipan Cai; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Fredrik Gröndahl; Brian Deal; Stan Geertman; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; urbanization; planning support system; spatial dynamic model; urban land use change; spatial analysis; human-land interaction; socioeconomics; ecological systems; urban amenities; environmental impact assessment; what-if; decision-making; urbanisering; planeringsstödsystem; rumslig dynamisk modell; förändring av stadsmarkanvändning; rumslig analys; mänsklig-land interaktion; socioekonomi; ekologiska system; urbana bekvämligheter; miljökonsekvensbeskrivning; vad-om; beslutsfattande; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : As global urbanization progresses, cities worldwide are growing in size, which leads to many economic, environmental, and management challenges. Recent advancements in spatial data analysis and algorithmic geography have also led to the development of various urban model-based planning support systems (PSS) for urban planning. READ MORE

  3. 18. Decision Analysis in Situations with Conflicting Interests

    Author : Tobias Fasth; Aron Larsson; Love Ekenberg; Lisa Brouwers; Valentina Ferretti; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis; Portfolio Decision Analysis; Conflict Analysis; Decision Tools; Land Use Planning; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : Decision problems in participatory decision making involve multiple stakeholders, who often have conflicting preferences concerning the actions under consideration. Decision problems such as these can be structured as multi-criteria problems, which enables the actions to be evaluated in terms of more than one single criterion. READ MORE

  4. 19. Iodine Isotopes (129I and 127I) in the Baltic Sea   : Tracer applications & environmental impact

    Author : Peng Yi; Ala Aldahan; Glen Snyder; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : 129I is a radioactive isotope (T1/2= 15.7 million years) produced through natural and anthropogenic pathways, but the anthropogenic production is presently dominating the Earth’s surface environments. READ MORE

  5. 20. Targeted and untargeted analysis of organic contaminants from on-site sewage treatment facilities : Removal, fate and environmental impact

    Author : Kristin Blum; Peter Haglund; Patrik Andersson; Pim Leonards; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; decentralized sewage treatment; wastewater; surface water; environmental fate; bioavailability; removal efficiency; mass fluxes; biochar; environment; GC×GC-MS; LC-IM-MS; mass spectrometry; contaminants; pollutants; prioritization; non-target analysis; screening; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : On-site sewage treatment facilities (OSSFs) are widely used all over the world to treat wastewater when large-scale sewage treatment plants (STPs) are not economically feasible. Although there is great awareness that the release of untreated wastewater into the environment can lead to water-related diseases and eutrophication, little is known about organic contaminants and their removal by OSSFs, environmental load and fate.
