  1. 1. Studies of Catalytic Low-Temperature CO Oxidation over Cobalt Oxide and Related Transition Metal Oxides

    Author : Jonas Jansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; catalytic CO oxidation; in-situ XRD; transition metal oxides; low temperature activity; kinetic modelling; in-situ FTIR; in-situ XANES; cobalt oxide; catalyst deactivation; reaction mechanism;

    Abstract : The catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide at low temperatures is important in many applications. The use of a low temperature active catalyst may lower the emissions during the cold-start of a car, and volatile organic compounds in exhaust gases from stationary sources might be treated without the need of preheating the gas. 2. 2. Photocatalysis for Indoor Air Cleaning : In situ FTIR and DFT Study of Acetaldehyde Photo-Oxidation on TiO2 and Sulfate-Modified TiO2

    Author : Bozhidar Stefanov; Lars Österlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TiO2; acetaldehyde; crotonaldehyde; dimer; adsorption; DFT; FTIR; photocatalysis; micro-kinetic modeling; acid–base properties; surface functionalization; Solid State Physics; Fasta tillståndets fysik; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : Acetaldehyde is among the group of VOC’s causing the so-called "sick building" syndrome. WHO has estimated that this problem, related to the indoor air-quality, affects one third of all buildings worldwide. TiO2 is an attractive material for the photocatalytic removal of VOC’s in the indoor environment. READ MORE

  3. 3. An in-situ ATR-FTIR Spectroscopy Study of Adsorption in MFI Zeolites : A step towards effective upgrading of biofuels

    Author : Lindsay Ohlin; Niklas Hedin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical Technology; Kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : Global warming is believed to be caused by the extensive emission of greenhouse gases, for example carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere by combustion of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas. To reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and hence avoid global warming, alternative fuels derived from renewable resources are desired. READ MORE

  4. 4. An in situ spectro-electrochemical study of aluminium/polymer interfaces : development of ATR-FTIR and its integration with EIS for corrosion studies

    Author : Maria Öhman; Christofer Leygraf; Jan-Olov Nilsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; : ATR-FTIR; EIS; spectro-electrochemical; interface; aluminium; polymer; Other chemistry; Övrig kemi;

    Abstract : In order to extend the applications of aluminium, organic coatings may be applied on sheet materials, for instance for corrosion protection or aesthetic surface finish purposes in the automotive and construction industries, or on foil materials in the flexible packaging industry. The most common mechanisms for deterioration and structural failure of organically coated aluminium structures are triggered by exposures to the surrounding environment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Partial Oxidation of Methane over Functionalised Zeolites and Zeotypes

    Author : Xueting Wang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FTIR; Heterogeneous catalysis; Copper boron silicate; Zeolite; Natural gas; Biogas; Green methanol; zeotype; Temperature-programmed desorption; Cu-SSZ-13; Cu-ZSM-5; In situ infrared spectroscopy;

    Abstract : Partial oxidation of methane to methanol is an industrially important process that allows natural gas and biogas to be utilised for methanol-based production of chemicals or converted to liquid methanol fuel, which make transportation more facile. In this thesis, the activity for partial oxidation of methane to methanol over copper functionalised zeolites and silica supported copper is investigated using a three-step quasi-catalytic approach including catalyst activation, methane reaction and methanol extraction by water.
