  1. 6. Drugs and polymers in dissolving solid dispersions : NMR imaging and spectroscopy

    Author : Carina Dahlberg; István Furó; Anna Millqvist-Fureby; Michael Schuleit; Jadwiga Tritt-Goc; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Abstract : The number of poorly water-soluble drug substances in the pharmaceutical pipeline is increasing, and thereby also the need to design effective drug delivery systems providing high bioavailability. One favourable formulation approach is preparation of solid dispersions, where dispersing a poorly water-soluble drug in a water-soluble polymer matrix improves the dissolution behaviour and the bioavailability of the drug. 2. 7. Engineering nanomaterials with enhanced functionality

    Author : Shanghua Li; Mamoun Muhammed; Saad Elraghy; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PMMA-ZnO; nanocomposite; hybrid material; in situ sol-gel polymerization; quantum dots; UV-shielding; Nanostructured surface; Pool boiling; Heat transfer coefficient; Bubble nucleation; Enhanced boiling; dendritic branch; Electrodeposition; Nanoengineering; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the engineering of novel nanomaterials, particularly nanocomposites and nanostructured surfaces with enhanced functionalities. The study includes two parts; in the first part, an in situ sol-gel polymerization approach is used for the synthesis of polymer-inorganic hybrid material and its exceptional transparent UV-shielding effect has been investigated. 3. 8. New Materials and Improved Ambient Techniques in Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Nicolò Riboni; Leopold Ilag; Elisa Robotti; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass Spectrometry; Solid Phase Microextraction; Ambient Mass Spectrometry; Desorption Electrospray Ionization; Paper Spray Ionization; Cavitands; BTEX; New Psychoactive Substances; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Mass spectrometry (MS) is used in several fields, e.g. biology, environmental monitoring, medicine and forensics due to excellent qualitative and quantitative capabilities. The development of new instrumental setups and ionization sources is crucial to analyze a variety of compounds at trace levels. READ MORE

  4. 9. Thermal Barrier Coatings for Diesel Engines

    Author : Anders Thibblin; Ulf Olofsson; Stefan Jonsson; Senad Dizdar; Uta Klement; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal barrier coatings; diesel engine; thermal cycling fatigue; heat flux; running-in; exhaust manifolds; yttria-stabilized zirconia; gadolinium zirconate; lanthanum zirconate; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Reducing the heat losses in heavy-duty diesel engines is of importance for improving engine efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions. Depositing thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) onto engine components has been demonstrated to have great potential to reduce heat loss from the combustion chamber as well as from exhaust components. 5. 10. Fluids, Gels and Crystals : Phase behavior of binary thermoresponsive microgel mixtures

    Author : Jasper Immink; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; colloidal phase behavior; microgel; binary mixture; colloidal gel; sequential gelation; patchy particle; binary crystal; crystal-to-crystal transition;

    Abstract : Thermoresponsive colloidal microgels expel solvent from their interior upon crossing a threshold temperature, resulting in a significantly reduced size. The collapse of microgels can reversibly switch the interparticle interactions from soft repulsive to attractive, and the accompanying size reduction allows for precise control over volume fraction.
