  1. 1. Optical Analysis of biological media - continuous wave diffuse spectroscopy

    Author : Jan Sørensen Dam; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spatially resolved diffuse reflectance; in vitro diffuse spectroscopy; continuous wave techniques; Nuclear physics; multivariate data analysis.; Kärnfysik; Fysik; Physics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Monte Carlo simulations; light propagation models; multiple scattering; Tissue optics; tissue optical properties; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Sörensen Dam;

    Abstract : The main topic of this thesis is real-time quantification of relevant chromophores and light scattering elements in biological media. The presented methods and instrumentation are based on continuous wave (steady-state) optical measurements of (a) spatially-resolved diffuse reflectance from bulk media and (b) combined spatially-resolved and goniometric measurements of re-emitted light from thin samples. 2. 2. Quantitative magnetic resonance in diffuse liver and neurological disease

    Author : Olof Dahlqvist Leinhard; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Mapping--methods; Choline--analysis; Liver diseases--diagnosis; Magnetic resonance imaging--methods; Magnetic resonance spectroscopy--methods; Multiple sclerosis--diagnosis; Multiple sclerosis--metabolism; Nerve fibers; myelinated--metabolism; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance (MR) has become one of the most important diagnostic tools in modern medicine. It provides superior soft tissue contrast compared to other imaging modalities, it is extremely flexible as it can be used to image all parts of the body, and it is considered to be safe for patients. 3. 3. Optical spectroscopy for tissue diagnostics

    Author : Nazila Yavari; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Biomedical Optics as an interdisciplinary field of science has been developed during many years and is experiencing tremendous growth, to cover a wide range of optical techniques and methods, utilized for medical therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. Biomedical optics contributes in the introducing methods and creation of devices used in healthcare of various specialties, such as ophthalmology, cardiology, surgery, dermatology, oncology, radiology, etc. READ MORE

  4. 4. On optical methods for intracerebral measurements during stereotactic and functional neurosurgery : Experimental studies

    Author : Johan Antonsson; Karin Wårdell; Lars-Erik Augustinsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Laser Doppler perfusion monitoring; Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy; Functional and stereotactic neurosurgery; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : Radio frequency (RF) lesioning and deep brain stimulation (DBS) are the two prevailing surgical treatments for movement disorders within the field of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. For RF-lesioning, a small volume of brain tissue is coagulated and knowledge of the lesion size and growth is of great importance for the safety and outcome of the procedure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optical measurements in brain tissue during radio frequency lesioning

    Author : Johan Antonsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Radio frequency (RF) lesioning is a well well-known procedure within the field of stereotactic neurosurgery, commonly used for the treatment of movement disorders. During the intervention, an RF-electrode is inserted into the deeper parts of the brain, where a small volume of malfunctioning brain tissue will be coagulated. READ MORE
