  1. 1. Exploring the role of rheology in bolus flow using an in-vitro approach

    Author : Muhammad Waqas; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; extensional rheology; ultrasound viscometery; Bolus rheology; in vivo analysis; in vitro manometry; In-vitro simulations; degluitition; microstructure analysis; thickened fluids; Dysphagia;

    Abstract : Swallowing disorders, termed ‘dysphagia’, are more common in the elderly but can also affect younger persons. Approximately, 8% of the world’s population suffers from dysphagia. A Texture Modified Diet (TMD), which increases bolus viscosity to adjust for the sluggish bolus handling mechanism, is the most common intervention. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bile Acid Induced Diarrhoea Pathophysiological and Clinical Aspects

    Author : Antal Bajor; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Diarrhoea; bile acid transport; bile acid synthesis; 75SeHCAT reproducibility; C4; budesonide; collagenous colitis; in vitro; malabsorption; ASBT; intestinal secretion; potential difference; manometry;

    Abstract : A common cause for referral to gastroenterologists is chronic watery diarrhoea. Approximately 40% of these patients have idiopathic bile acid malabsorption (BAM) ? a condition with unknown aetiology. The 75SeHCAT test, which correlates inversely with faecal excretion and hepatic synthesis of bile acids, is used to diagnose BAM. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exploratory clinical development of ropivacaine, a local anaesthetic, in ulcerative colitis

    Author : Eva Arlander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Drug development; ulcerative colitis; ropivacaine; rectal administration; pharmacokinetics; metabolism.;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to explore the clinical pharmacology of ropivacaine gel as a potential new rectal therapy for ulcerative colitis (UC). The studies included pharmacokinetics, tolerability, preliminary efficacy in patients, formulation factors and drug-drug interactions. READ MORE
