  1. 1. Growth regulation in sarcomas : studies in vivo and in cell culture

    Author : Avni Abdiu; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Sarcomas are malignant tumors of mesenchymal origin, and can arise in soft-tissue and in bones. It has been suggested that the abnormal growth regulation in sarcoma cells may be due to an autocrine mechanism, in which the cells are stimulated by an endogenous production of growth factors. 2. 2. Long acting local anaesthetics - a study in rats

    Author : Henrik Dyhre; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; in vivo and effect kinetics; Comparison of in vitro; Neuro toxicity; Infraorbital nerve block; Sciatic nerve block; Lipid depot formulation;

    Abstract : Local anaesthetics provide excellent pain relief after central and peripheral nerve blocks. However, in many clinical situations there is an insufficient duration of action to allow effective treatment of long-term pain with single injection techniques. This problem became the focus of the present studies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Short and long-term effects of exposure to low dose and low dose rate of gamma radiation : using in vitro and in vivo models

    Author : Traimate Sangsuwan; Siamak Haghdoost; Eva Forssell-Aronsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Low dose; Low dose rate; High dose rate; Ionizing radiation; Adaptive response; Senescence; Premature senescence; Oxidative stress; Drosophila embryo; Mutation; DNA repair; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Assessment of human health risks from exposure to ionizing radiation (IR) is mainly based on the extrapolation of results from epidemiological studies on populations exposed to relatively high doses and often at high dose rates (HDR). Risk estimates after exposure to low doses and in particular at low dose rates (LDR) remain controversial due to a lack of epidemiological evidence. READ MORE

  4. 4. On magnesium-modified titanium coatings and magnesium alloys for oral orthopaedic applications : in vitro investigation

    Author : Francesca Cecchinato; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biocompatible material; Bone substitutes; Biomaterial; Dentala implantat;

    Abstract : In dentistry and orthopaedic surgery, research to find and developimproved biomaterials is progressing rapidly.Of specific interest is to accelerate bone formation around theimplant surface, which could improve the reliability of the implanteven in patients with compromised situations. 5. 5. Intestinal permeability : a parameter of mucosal dysfunction

    Author : Pål Lundin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Peptide; N-acetylcysteine; Medium-chain glyceride; Mannitol; Macromolecules; Lipid; Kinetics; In vivo; In vitro; In situ; Intestine; Injury; Inflammation; HLA-B27; HCl; Epithelium; Enhancer; dDAVP; 51Cr-EDTA; BSA; Absorption; Albumin; Permeability; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Abstract : The gastrointestinal tract has two opposing functions; to absorb nutrients and electrolytes, and to act as a barrier towards hazardous and non-nutritional substances. In the present thesis the barrier function of the gastrointestinal tract was studied in animal models in vivo, in situ and in vitro. READ MORE
