1. The Role of Chlamydia pneumoniae-induced Platelet Activation in Cardiovascular Disease : In vitro and In vivo studies
Abstract : The common risk factors for atherosclerosis, such as obesity, high cholesterol levels, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes and high alcohol intake, only explain approximately 50% of cardiovascular disease events. It is thereby important to identify new mechanisms that can stimulate the process of atherosclerosis. READ MORE

2. Multiple functions of YopN in the Yersinia pseudotuberculosis type III secretion system : from regulation to in vivo infection
Abstract : The type 3 secretion systems (T3SSs) are virulence mechanisms used by various Gram-negative bacteria to overcome the host immunity. They are often target-cell contact induced and activated. Activation results in targeting of virulence effector substrates into host cells. READ MORE

3. Twin-arginine translocation in Yersinia : the substrates and their role in virulence
Abstract : Pathogenic Yersinia cause a manifold of diseases in humans ranging from mild gastroenteritis (Y. pseudotuberculosis and Y. enterocolitica) to pneumonic and bubonic plague (Y. READ MORE

4. Cytokines and Neutrophils in the Urinary Tract Mucosa
Abstract : This study investigated the urinary tract cytokine reponse to infection and the role of chemokines for neutrophil recruitment to the urinary tract. The results suggest that 1) IL-8 and TGFb are consitutively produced by uroepithelial cells in vivo, and that uroepithelial cells are stimulated to produce IL-1b and IL-6 by uropathogenic Escherichia coli. 5. Multi-level characterization of host and pathogen in Helicobacter pylori-associated gastric carcinogenesis
Abstract : Today, more than half of the world’s population is infected with Helicobacter pylori, and two to three per cent of these will develop gastric cancer associated with this infection. Gastric cancer is today the third largest cause of cancer mortality worldwide, with more than 700 000 deaths annually, a number that is expected to increase. H. READ MORE
