  1. 1. Acetylcholine in Spinal Pain Modulation : An in vivo Study in the Rat

    Author : Klas Abelson; Urban Höglund; Ernst Brodin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Laboratory animals; Pain; Nociception; Antinociception; Acetylcholine; Muscarinic; Nicotinic; Spinal cord; Microdialysis; Försöksdjursvetenskap; Laboratory animal science; Försöksdjursvetenskap;

    Abstract : The spinal cord is an important component in the processing and modulation of painful stimuli. Nerve signals from the periphery are relayed and further conducted to the brain (nociception) in the spinal cord, and the most essential modulation of painful information (antinociception) occurs here. 2. 2. The Role of Chlamydia pneumoniae-induced Platelet Activation in Cardiovascular Disease : In vitro and In vivo studies

    Author : Hanna Kälvegren; Torbjörn Bengtsson; Arina Richter; Erik Kihlström; Kenneth Persson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chlamydia pneumoniae; Platelet; atherosclerosis; Infection; LDL-oxidation; Percutaneous coronary intervention; Cardiovascular disease; Serotonin; Reactive oxygen species production; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Abstract : The common risk factors for atherosclerosis, such as obesity, high cholesterol levels, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes and high alcohol intake, only explain approximately 50% of cardiovascular disease events. It is thereby important to identify new mechanisms that can stimulate the process of atherosclerosis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of Eosinophil Cationic Protein (ECP) in vivo and in vitro : Impact of Genetic and Posttranslational Modifications

    Author : Jenny Eriksson; Per Venge; Agneta Trulson; Ester Boix; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biomedicine; Eosinophil granulocyte; granular protein; ECP; gene polymorphism; cytotoxicity; SELDI-TOF MS; glycosylation; molecular and functional heterogeneity; fibrosis; Biomedicin;

    Abstract : Eosinophil granulocytes are tissue dwelling leukocytes that are implicated in host defence, particularly against helminthic parasites; they also participate in most inflammatory disorders. Although eosinophils have important roles in host defence mechanisms, their actions can also be harmful to the host as in the allergic inflammation where lung epithelium is destructed due to the release of toxic granule proteins. 4. 4. Regulation of Ovarian Aromatase: Studies by Aromatase Assays in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Dmitrijus Kirilovas; Mats Brännström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; aromatase; human; granulosa cells; 11C-vorozole; active site; allosteric configuration; in vitro; in vivo; PET; androgens; rat; estrous cycle.; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Abstract : An in vitro method was developed for measuring aromatase, based on binding of competitive aromatase inhibitor [11C]vorozole to the active site of the enzyme. [11C]Vorozole displayed high, specific binding in vitro to human placenta and human granulosa cells (GC), both fresh and frozen/thawed cells, provided correct procedures were used. READ MORE

  5. 5. In Vitro – In Vivo Correlation of Injectable Lipid Formulations

    Author : Lars Söderberg; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EC 50; erythrocyte; human plasma; lipid injectable formulation; IVIVC; fatty acid; in vitro release; Peripheral nerve block; neurolytic; structure-activity;

    Abstract : In order to develop new pharmaceuticals, to optimize pharmacotherapy and secure patient safety, documentation of the properties of pharmaceutical formulations is a most important process. A significant practical problem associated with pre-clinical evaluation of lipophilic substances with pharmacological properties is their low aqueous solubility. READ MORE
