  3. 13. Studies of Eosinophil Cationic Protein (ECP) in vivo and in vitro : Impact of Genetic and Posttranslational Modifications

    Author : Jenny Eriksson; Per Venge; Agneta Trulson; Ester Boix; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biomedicine; Eosinophil granulocyte; granular protein; ECP; gene polymorphism; cytotoxicity; SELDI-TOF MS; glycosylation; molecular and functional heterogeneity; fibrosis; Biomedicin;

    Abstract : Eosinophil granulocytes are tissue dwelling leukocytes that are implicated in host defence, particularly against helminthic parasites; they also participate in most inflammatory disorders. Although eosinophils have important roles in host defence mechanisms, their actions can also be harmful to the host as in the allergic inflammation where lung epithelium is destructed due to the release of toxic granule proteins. 4. 14. The subthalamic nucleus in motor and affective functions : An optogenetic in vivo-investigation

    Author : Adriane Guillaumin; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Konstantinos Meletis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Subthalamic nucleus; optogenetics; basal ganglia; locomotion; Parkinson s disease; aversion; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : The basal ganglia form a group of subcortical interconnected nuclei involved in motor, limbic and cognitive functions. According to the classical model of the basal ganglia, two main pathways exert opposing control over movement, one facilitating movement and the other suppressing movement. READ MORE

  5. 15. Wear and Fixation of the acetabular component : in vivo evaluation of different polyethylenes and modes of fixation in total hip arthroplasty

    Author : Stephan Maximilian Röhrl; Kjell Gunnar Nilsson; Bo Nivbrant; Lars Nordsletten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; total hip arthroplasty; acetabular component; wear; fixation; osteolysis; Radiostereometry; RSA; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; ortopedi; Orthopaedics;

    Abstract : Polyethylene wear and micromotion of the implant play an important role in multifactorial etiology of osteolysis leading to aseptic loosening of the acetabular components. Despite excellent results in primary total hip arthoplasty in a 10-15 year perspective there are still unsolved problems. READ MORE
