  1. 1. Some Basic Problems in Rock Breakage by Blasting and by Indentation

    Author : S.Q. Kou; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och Berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to discussing some basic problems in rock breakage by blasting and by mechanical excavation, and contains a detailed summary and six appended papers numbered as Papers A to F. The central problem treated in this thesis is the interaction between either explosion products or mechanical tools and rock. READ MORE

  2. 2. Atomic force microscopic studies of inner ear structure and mechanics

    Author : Alexandra Zelenskaya; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Atomic force microscopy; indentation curves; mechanical properties; outer hair cells; shell-core model; electromotility; prestin; otoconia; tympanic membrane.;

    Abstract : The transduction processes occurring in the inner ear, from sound induced vibration or head movements to nerve impulses sent to the brain, are to a large part dependent on the mechanical properties of the different components of this organ, especially the sensory hair cells. The function of the hearing organ is for example dependent on the unique mechanoelectric transduction properties of the cochlear outer hair cells (OHCs), which are able to respond to electrophysiological and mechanical stimulations by changing their shape and their mechanical properties. 3. 3. Numerical modelling of the rock fracture process under mechanical loading

    Author : Hongyuan Liu; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och Berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : The fracture of rock has been the subject of the extensive research in the mechanical fragmentation. With the rapid development of computing power, interactive computer graphics and topological data structure, numerical tool has become a good tool to gain some insights into the problem of rock fracture.
