  1. 1. Uptake and toxicity of brominated flame retardants and pesticides : Studies on littoral organisms and model communities

    Author : Kerstin Gustafsson; Nils Kautsky; Kirsten Christoffersen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquatic ecotoxicology; ecological interactions; indirect effects; model community studies; toxicity; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, brackish and freshwater littoral model communities (microcosms) of varying size and complexity were used to study the effects of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and pesticides. The brackish water microcosms consisted of natural water, sediment and associated organisms, while the larger freshwater microcosms also contained submersed macrophytes (Elodea canadensis). 2. 2. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analysis of antidiuretic peptides

    Author : Torbjörn Callréus; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lithium; indirect-response model; pharmacodynamics; pharmacokinetics; gastrointestinal absorption; gastrointestinal motility; loperamide; erythromycin; antidiuretic effect; desmopressin; overhydration; vasopressin analogue F992 ; interaction; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The clinical pharmacology of desmopressin and a new vasopressin analogue (F992) was investigated in healthy human subjects. The common procedure of overhydration of healthy volunteers when studying the antidiuretic effect of a drug, may affect the pharmacokinetics, in particular the volumes of distribution. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on intrinsic and extrinsic sources of variability in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

    Author : Johanna Mercke Odeberg; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxikologi; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; genetic polymorphisms UGT1A-and MDR1 gene ; indirect response model; desmopressin; oral lipid based formulations; farmaci; Farmakologi; toxicology; farmakognosi;

    Abstract : Variability in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters between individuals can be due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. In this thesis three different areas regarding sources of variability have been investigated. 1. Formulation properties as an extrinsic source of variability. READ MORE

  4. 4. Metabolic and Endocrine Response in the Acute Stage of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

    Author : Christoffer Nyberg; Elisabeth Ronne Engström; Torbjörn Karlsson; Lars Hillered; Silvana Naredi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Subarachnoid hemorrhage; Energy Expenditure; BNP; Animal Model; Cortisol; Microdialysis; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Abstract : The rupture of an aneurysm in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a dramatic event causing a severe impact on the brain and a transient or permanent ischemic condition. Several types of responses to meet the challenges of SAH have been found in the acute phase, including activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the sympathetic nervous system, elevated levels of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), and disturbances in cerebral and systemic metabolism. 5. 5. Physiologically Based Pharmacometric Models for Colistin and the Immune Response to Bacterial Infection

    Author : Salim Bouchene; Mats O. Karlsson; Wilhelm Huisinga; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PBPK model; endotoxin; colistin; WBPBPK-PD; CMS; inflammation; tissue distribution; Kp; predictions in tissue; interspecies scaling;

    Abstract : Antibiotic treatment failure might be due to bacterial resistance or suboptimal exposure at target site and there is a lack of knowledge on the interaction between antimicrobial pharmacodynamics (PD) and the immune response to bacterial infections. Therefore, it is crucial to develop tools to increase the understanding of drug disposition to better evaluate antibiotic candidates in drug development and to elucidate the role of the immune system in bacterial infections.
