  1. 1. Induced hypothermia after cardiac arrest

    Author : Niklas Nielsen; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; complications; evidence; neurological outcome; survival; induced hypothermia; cardiac arrest; randomised trial; heart arrest;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on studies of the clinical use of induced hypothermia as an intervention to reduce mortality and neurological impairment after cardiac arrest. After the publication of two trials indicating benefit of induced hypothermia, we developed a registry to assess outcome, possible adverse events and conduct of induced hypothermia when this intervention was implemented in a clinical population of cardiac arrest patients. 2. 2. Lung Transplantation: Clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Leif Eriksson; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiratory system; Follow up Studies; Vascular Resistance; Intensive Care; Induced; Hypothermia; Swine; Extracorporeal Circulation; Lung Transplantation; Organ Preservation; Andningsorganen; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : During the past 15 years lung transplantation has been established as a therapeutic option for patients with end-stage pulmonary disease. The results have improved over time and some transplantation centers now show 1-year survival rates above 80%. READ MORE

  3. 3. Intranasal Cooling for Cerebral Hypothermia Treatment

    Author : Lucian Covaciu; Sten Rubertsson; Jan Weis; Peter Andrews; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Selective brain cooling; cerebral hypothermia; therapeutic hypothermia; cardiac arrest; stroke; traumatic brain injury; brain temperature; magnetic resonance spectroscopy; trigeminal reflex; Intensive care; Intensivvård; Radiology; Radiologi; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Abstract : The controlled lowering of core body temperature to 32°C to 34°C is defined as therapeutic hypothermia (TH). Therapeutic hypothermia has been shown to improve neurological outcome and survival in unconscious patients successfully resuscitated after cardiac arrest. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hypothermia and trauma

    Author : Andreas Wladis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Accidental hypothermia (HT) has been found to increase morbidity and mortality in trauma patients. In contrast, HT has been induced in certain surgical procedures for several decades because of its cerebroprotective properties. HT has even been used therapeutically in patients with traumatic brain injury. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hypothermia and radiation. Effects on DNA, chromatin and cellular survival

    Author : Kerstin Elmroth; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cells; temperature; irradiation; dsb; survival; fluorescent nucleoid assay; hypothermia;

    Abstract : The effect of ionising radiation on cells can be modulated by several physico-chemical factors. The aim of this study was to investigate if hypothermic (sub-physiological) temperatures (2°C-28°C) may influence the effect of X-rays on cellular damage in human normal fibroblasts and in a human breast adenocarcinoma cell line, MCF-7.
