  1. 21. Influence of fluid shear on primary nucleation of low molecular organic compounds in solution

    Author : Jin Liu; Åke Rasmuson; Mårten Behm; Ulf Gedde; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Agitation; Primary nucleation; Induction time; Fluid shear; Energy input; Mass transfer; Molecular alignment; Butyl paraben; Curcumin; m-Hydroxybenzoic acid; Solid-liquid interfacial energy; Nuclei critical radius;

    Abstract : In this project, two experimental systems have been set up to study the influence of fluid shear on primary nucleation. In the first set of experiments, in total about 3000 nucleation experiments have been done with butyl paraben/ethanol solutions, curcumin/ethanol solutions and m-hydroxybenzoic acid/1-propanol solutions in capped vials agitated with magnetic stir bars. 2. 22. Automating Power Quality Analysis

    Author : Emmanouil Styvaktakis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pattern classification; expert systems; induction motors; power system transients; voltage dips; power system faults; power quality; Kalman filtering; power system monitoring; transformer saturation; short time Fourier transform;

    Abstract : The increased requirements on supervision, control, and performance in modern power systems make power quality monitoring a common practise for utilities. Large databases are created and automatic processing of the data is required for fast and effective use of the available information. READ MORE

  3. 23. Early Rostrocaudal Patterning of the CNS

    Author : Ulrika Nordström; Thomas Edlund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CNS development; neural patterning; neural specification; Wnt; FGF; RA; Isthmic organizer; motor neurons; rostrocaudal patterning.; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : The transformation of an initially uniform population of epiblast cells into an intricately complex central nervous system (CNS) is one of the most fascinating processes during embryonic development. Presumptive neural cells are initially specified as cells of forebrain character. READ MORE

  4. 24. Design, Modelling and Control of Electrical Machines - With Applications to Iron-powder Machines and Acoustic Noise

    Author : David Martinez; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; BEM; induction machine; noise prediction; vector control; acoustic noise; HEV; series magnetization; leakage reduction; thermal model; FEM; MEC; claw-poles; SMC; slip-ring-less machine; sound intensity measurements; vibration; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two parts, the first dealing with the design of iron-powder synchronous machines, and the second with the analysis and prediction of the acoustic noise in electrical machines. In Part I, a 1.6 kW electrically magnetized claw-pole machine with magnetically conducting end-plates has been analyzed and a prototype tested. READ MORE

  5. 25. Using patient-derived cell models to investigate the role of misfolded SOD1 in ALS

    Author : Elin Forsgren; Jonathan Gilthorpe; Stefan Marklund; Peter Andersen; Thomas Brännström; Ulrika Nordström; Séverine Boillée; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ALS; SOD1; patient-derived models; induced pluripotent stem cells; motor neurons; astrocytes; 20S proteasome low oxygen tension; misfolded SOD1; Neurology; neurologi;

    Abstract : Protein misfolding and aggregation underlie several neurodegenerative proteinopathies including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) was the first gene found to be associated with familial ALS. READ MORE
