  1. 1. Ultra-sensitive measurements of magnetically labelled RCA products in a microfluidic channel using a high-Tc SQUID

    Author : Sobhan Sepehri; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; diagnostics.; high-Tc SQUID; biosensor; magnetic nanoparticle; rolling circle amplification; magnetic bioassay;

    Abstract : The development of a nucleic acid (deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA)) bioassay based on magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with a high-Tc superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) gradiometer as a magnetic readout is described. The specific binding of the MNPs to the target DNA molecules changes the MNPs size distribution and, therefore, the relaxation dynamics and is measured by magnetic ac susceptometry. READ MORE

  2. 2. Stimulating Industrial Development in Uganda Through Open Innovation Incubators

    Author : Joshua Mutambi; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Clusters; Entrepreneurship; Innovation Systems; Industrialization; Open Innovation; incubators; Small and Medium Enterprises SMEs ;

    Abstract : Uganda’s economy is agro-based; although the country is land locked it has great potential for industrial development. It is well endowed with natural resources and salubrious climate, but with little success in transforming its agricultural and mineral wealth into processed commodities for local, regional and international markets. 3. 3. Structure-Control of the Rheological Behaviour of Particulate Gels

    Author : Camilla Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; structure formation; potato amylopectin; structure deformation; rheology; particulate gels; image analysis; beta-lactoglobulin; fracture mechanics; microstructure;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is the relation between the rheological and structural properties of mixed particulate gels, based on β-lactoglobulin, determined under both dynamic and static conditions. Rheological characteristics were recorded during formation of the gels, on set gels and during deformation and fracture of the gels, using viscoelastic measurements in shear and in compression and fracture mechanics in tension. 4. 4. Cryogels Based on Crosslinked Cells as Green Biocatalysts for Biotechnology

    Author : Oksana Zaushitsyna; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cells; Crosslinkers; PVA PEI; Immobilization; Biocatalysts; Biobased chemicals; Biotransformation; stress tolerance;

    Abstract : Abstract Due to the finite nature of fossil resources and their environmental impact, such as greenhouse gases and climate change, the bio-based production of chemicals, materials and fuels is the subject of extensive research in industrial biotechnology. Biotransformation and fermentation are considered to be mild, “green” processes that make use of effective and reliable biocatalysts to provide bio-based chemicals. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structural and functional investigation of underexplored carbohydrate-active enzyme families

    Author : Andrea Seveso; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbohydrate-active enzymes; lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase; plant biomass degradation; copper radical oxidases; carbohydrate esterase; protein structure determination; protein structure prediction;

    Abstract : The known consequences of the current fossil-based economy require a transition towards a bio-based economy. Development of biorefineries in which plant biomass can be utilized as a renewable source of energy and building blocks to produce both commodities and high-value products, is a key step in this transition.
